97 190 NOT Getting outta the hole

hello everone, i just purchased a 97 190 dc w a 200 merc, its got a 6 in jack plate
of course i live in co, 5280 could barley get the boat on to plane, once i did it was saying 4900 rpms, put the boat on the trailer,WOW 26 pitch Trophy on back,lol
what prop do i need to try to get this boat running better

Maybe try a 25 Tempest ?

You lose a little more than 15% of your hp at 5k above msl, also high air temps will affect power also. Since that 200 is really about 160-175hp. You may need to prop down quite a bit.

General rule of thumb is about 3% loss of hp per 1k feet above msl.

Definitely go down, finds some buds and do some prop swapping...

friend of mine had a 94 190 with a 2001 200 EFI on it...he spun a 25 Trophy up to 6k for right at 70 MPH...might try that

At 5,000 feet, you'll need to drop down a LOT..
Find a 23 tempest, that will put you right where you want to be.

Ok so the boat shop didnt have a 23p prop they let me try a 21 mirage and I ran 6300 rpms, 62 mph gps, So im gussing I need to try a 23p
Im also seem to have a slight hesitation from 2k to 3 k rpms, any ideas

Yep, 23 tempest should work like a dream. Hesitation can be a number of things..pin hole in the fuel pump, semi clogged filters, TPI setting... or just the fact you operate in the stratosphere.

I fish at 5250 feet and Pat suggested the 23 to me and it made a WORLD of difference in my hole shot. It wasn't too awful bad with my 25, but man that 23 got me to the 3 second range with a passenger and half-full livewells.

I noticed a hesitation like that about 18 months ago in my 200 EFI that kept getting worse. After checking EVERYTHING, I sent my injectors to be cleaned. Injector RX in Houston did it, and they told me that the solvent came out black. My injectors were flowing much less than normal. I started checking my fuel lines, and they were disintegrating. I'm replacing my fuel lines every 2 years now until ethanol goes away.

Well I just got back from the boat shop had them clean the injectors,adjust the linkage,and throw another prop on 23 mirage, have an appointment for the water pump to be replaced next week, kinda weak.. well see tonight how she runs

Am not familiar with a mirage. Think you need a Tempest Plus!!!!!!!!!!!

Mirage is ok, but certainly not first choice...hold out for the tempest pards..
