Do you know if Ed's prices are for an installed motor?
There is nothing top secret when it comes to pricing. Just call your local dealership. Watch the blind ads that you find online. Alot of times they are leftovers, you will need to add freight and alot of other hidden items. Its always best to call the dealers that are in your area for a price. MSRP in a 2008 Blue 20" 250 (E250DPLSC) is $20,800.00 Most dealers do discount. You should be able to find one for around $18,240.00.. I am sure there are some leftover's out there that you may find at a better price.
Thanks guys,
Looks like ED has some reasonable prices !!

When I purchased a motor from Ed's back in 2005 it was a $500 to install a motor. That price was for any motor, a 25hp to a 300hp, didn't matter what motor. It might be alittle hire now, but when it comes to a 500 lbs plus outboard it'll be worth it.

Doesn't a dealer HAVE to install it?
Something about programing the puter so something.

According to the Dealer's "BRP Dealer Agreement" they do.
There are way more rigging components needed than $500.00 worth to install any E-Tec unless it's a tiller.
yippee.....finally something cheaper in Barbados.....Cost me $300 Barbados ($150 US) to install each of my 60Hp engines....
Its sad to say but there are a certain few dealers out there that do not play by the rules. I bet most of BRP warranty problems come from these dealers. It is very unfair to dealers that do play by the rules and do things right. We have pleaded our case many times to them. I am told they are working on it. We will be taking action this spring if things keep going the way they are.
"Play By The Rules" Man finds a dealer that will put motors on cheaper then someone else.Just because one dealer is cheaper dosn"t mean that he isn"t a top notch BRP dealer. This is the American way.I don"t know what these "Play By The Rules" statement totally means, but I would be very carefull that this dosn"t get into the realm of "Price Fixing".I"am not pointing at anyone, but at the momment that my read on this thread & hope I am wrong.
Play by the rules means to state the engine model number with the year along with what your getting for that price. Is freight, rigging parts, install in the price shown.
Play by the rules also states you will not break up new boat packages. A outboard is cheaper when its installed by the boat builder. Some dealers will take the engines off of new boat packages they have.
Play by thr rules also states that you will advertise in your servicing area. Every dealership has a set area that they can advertise in.
Play by the rules states it must be installed by a dealer with a signed delivery check list, signed by both the customer and the installing dealership.
THe biggest problem I have is these ads to do show model years. A customer that is no where near Eds on the other side of the country sees Ed's price and thinks they are current year pricing. They assume they can go into there local dealer and get a new enigne for that price. If the dealer only has current 2008 models instock then no they can not. We run into this every week and its getting old with us.
What we see every week is today customers look online before the do anything. The look at the price they see. They then call us asking for a price of a engine. We tell them a price for a new engine. They then say wow thats alot comparied online. THe customer will put that into there memory bank that we are more then other dealers out there. They will assume that we are also higher on store, parts and service also. What they do not realize is the price difference between different model years, what they are getting for that price, is it a derigged outboard from a boat builder..

Thanks for the reply johnrude,

This is good advise, I never really wanted to buy my boat & motor separately,
However I wanted to explore all my options.
Thanks Guys,

I was just curious as to what they charged versus what I paid for my 200HP installed two seasons ago. It was within $500 based on a casual answer from some one who had bought from Ed's. Comparison shopping before and after a purchase is human nature.![]()
I guess Ed's want's that Hawaii trip this year![]()
.
I hear you. They could not of had the trip to Hawaii for the 2006 model year![]()
This year we are a strong contender for the trip to Mexico. I did not feal that our progam goal quota was fair. But to my surprise we went well over that goal.
Thanks for the explanation Johnrude.
Johnrude,
That's a very thorough description of what people should consider.
I have done my research using internet pricing as Benchmarks to help me establish a good starting point for my prices. I checked out Jacobs and Ed's because it was really simple.
Next, I checked with my local dealers to try to come up with pricing. I asked the dealers to price the engines with all the line items separately. Simply put I knew that the Jaco's and Ed's engines didn't have those items. So I could compare apples to apples.
I was able to get a good feeling for the ballpark I was looking for an engine and was able to come up with a comfortable price locally. Interestingly enough, I was able to find prices on Merc, Evinrude, and yammie that I was very comfortable with. Ultimately, i chose the ETEC 225HO because of my experiences with this one dealer and the opportunity I had to trade in.
So all in all, people should use the internet as a tool to aid in shopping. However, they should check out the complete details before making their decision.
