    Hydro-Air Not Working

I have a 1989 Champion 201DCR and the Hydro-Air on the livewell isn't working. When you turn it on,regardless of the timer setting, nothing happens.Any suggestions?Does it have separate pump? The livewell switch on the dash works perfect in the fill and aerator.Any help on where to look or how to repair it would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

    Thank You for the help!

Did it work at one time? Some rigs have the switch, but no pump... it is an option. And, yes, separate pump on rear of well...not in bilge. Have you left the switch on for a few mins? Sometimes it might be in mid off cycle for the timer.

    Re: Hydro-Air Not Working (Lea)

    Hi Lea,

Thank You for the reply! I don't know if it ever worked. I bought the boat in February and it has spent more time in the garage than on the lake.I will turn the switch on and leave it on for several minutes to see if it comes on.The boat is a 1989 and hasn't seen much use during its life.

Some rigs have the switch, but not the pump. It is on the back of your livewell...not down in bilge. Got some folks here who can walk you thru!!

    Re: Hydro-Air Not Working (Lea)

If you have the divided livewell behind the seats, the Hydro pump should be on the back of the livewells. If you have the horseshoe shaped tank with the cross over forward, it could be hard to get to.

If you have the front and rear livewells, holler at ChampioNman, he has a 88 or 89 201 FnS

Pump failures are fairly common, especially on older boats. I had to change the pumps in both my 90 and 93 models. If you ever get into the bilge to change one, save your self some time and grief and change them all.

I just bought a 07 210 and have already replaced the 2 Hydro pumps and the pump-out pump. The pump-out and one of the Hydro motor cartridges had cracked and let water into the pump motors.

If you were closer, I'd say run it over and I'd help you with it.

My 93 had the 30 gal tank with the cross over under the splashwell, so access wasn't as difficult. Here is a shot of the Hydro pump location.

Check for a fuse. My Hydro-Air (recirc) keeps crapping out. It's the fuse that keeps blowing. Not sure why but I carry a box of fuses now.

I have an 04 198, so not sure if it is similar or not, but I know I had the same symptoms as you last year and replaced both the timer and the actual switch before someone said to check for a fuse and now I have a spare timer and switch. lol

    Re: (charlesn)

Earlier Champs didn't have fuses in the pump leads. They relied on the power breaker, which wasn't a good idea IMHO. Also on the early ones, the 100%/Fill position bypassed the timer for both Aerate and Hydro. The output of the timer supplied +12vdc to both the Hydro and Aerate switches which suppied the associated pump. So you could run both the Hydro and Aerate at the same time. Champion powered the console with 16ga wire, so you could really tell if they were both running ... One of the things I never got to on mine was to replace the 16ga with 12ga for the console power.

    Re: Hydro-Air Not Working (Littleman2009)

I have a 90 184DCR, over the last 2 years I have had to replace the the bilge pump and live well pump. I wish I kew the advice of then about replacing all of the pumps once you are in there!!

On my 184 the hyro-air pump was mounted in the bilge area, it has the U shaped tank. Remove all your batteries, oil tank and board from the bilge area. My hyro was mounted just under the tank, I could get to it without removing the tank. Wasn't easy but can be done.

I don't think the 89 champ has fuses?? I have breakers right under the switches on the console.

Yeah, Bass Boat Laws of Nature state that if you are in the bilge and don't change all the pumps, one will fail next time on the water ...

One other thing abut working in the bilge, I pulled the hatch off so that I could lie down between the seats and across the rear deck to work over in the bilge area. A lot easier than trying to work over the side ...
