    Performance problems

Hey guys I have a 2004 203 DCX with a Merc 250 EFI. For some reason my top speed is only 62mph at about 5400 RPM??? I am running a Fury 26p on it and have a 10 inch jackplate. I am a moron but I know I should be running WAY faster than that. Do you think moving the motor on the jackplate will help alot? I need suggestions. Thanks. And once I get things "corrected" what speed should I be running?

How long have you had the boat and has it always run that speed? What is your motor height (pad to propshaft measurment)? I would think low-mid 70's shouldnt be any problem.

I think you might want to look over your motor. You should be able to spin that up to 5800 rpm with that prop. Check your compression, good spark on all cyl.
If the motor checks out good then start adjusting plate.
From what I've read here in the past you want to be about 3.5" under pad but Fury's like to run deeper.
Let us know what you find.

Did you put the Fury on after you had been using another prop? If you replace your old prop with a Fury you probably should have gone down a inch in diameter. You need to first adjust the prop to pad to 3 1/2" as suggested. Also as suggested check the compression on all cylinders to make sure your engine is not the culprit. Run the boat and let us know what the WOT rpms are also what the red line is for the engine. Prop to pad information in this forum is on line 6. If you were running another prop before this one and before the jackplate and have the above information it would be helpful. If you get us the above information I am sure several of us can help you. I just went through coming up with the right prop and I would be glad to help you if I can.

You have a bunch of slip with low rpms. I would take it to a well respected shop to get it in the hands of a capable guy to fix it. Sounds like a mota issue. Keep us informed you have one hell of a setup.

Yup....or a faulty stator....cost you around 300.00. If you do the install yourself...not hard at all.

Run the motor on a hose take a timeing light and check each plug wire to be sure all are fireing ok could be a bad coil it sounds like you lost a cylinder or you have to big of a prop.

Gosh you guys are scaring me. Making me think the motor is going to cost an arm and a leg to fix. Wish I would have encountered this problem earlier in the year. ITS FISHING TIME right now. HA. Honestly thanks for all the insight. I guess I am going to take it in and see if someone can run it on the water and hook it up to the computer. One last question...Running full out with full trim, how high should your rooster tail be? Thanks for all the help and happy fishing.

    Re: (jluigs)

Your rooster tail should be at about the top of the cowling, hope you can get everything figured out and running good, you got a good combo there.
