I am looking to scale down the size of my tow veh. the old F150 is starting to eat more gas than i can eat donuts. thinking of smaller PU or jeep now with the smaller champ i might be abler to get away with it. Anyone have the tow spects for a 2001 mean 16 with a 90 merc

You will be fine with any smaller truck.

I pulled my old 17'6 all over the country with a Ford Ranger 4.0. Didn't wanna stop real quick but it was all I had.

I pull my 19 footer 150HP with my Ford Explorer Sport Tract - 4.0 six cylinder. I does rather well. Also somewhat decent on gas, even when towing. As stated, make sure the brakes are in good working condition. You should be fine with most 6 cylinder vehicles for your mean 16.
