Picked a wrong year to buy a boat.

So let's add all this up so far for my 2000 203:

Champion goes bankrupt the next year.

Bad year to buy an Optimax

Bad year for a Dri Doc trailer having springs break.

Now it seems the transom may be compromised.

I still think my next boat will be a Champ though.

203 Champion......you got a great boat, no matter what happened with Champion. Look at it this way...Ranger and Stratos went Bankrupt too...LOL. Tha boat remains alive though! Just repair it and have a blast with it. I would love to find a good 203 or 223, want to sell?

Your transom is more than likely just fine. Just keep good maintenance and check bolts and seals on a regular basis. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of 2000 Champs still running strong!!! Nothing will happen to any transom unless it is not sealed properly when things get mounted to it, and bolts, etc are not checked for integrity from time to time..

Yeah you're right Lea. Boat or engine has never let me down. Just replaced all the hoses and pumps in the bilge this year and everything looked good. Still runs as good as the day I bought it. Have had alot of great fishing days in it and never had to worry that the boat wouldn't perform.

Just seems like a lot of baggage came with particular year.

If your transom is solid, there is no reason to believe it won't remain that way. Last summer I replace the jackplate transom bolts in my 99 203, and sealed the hell out of them. I also resealed under the metal cap on the transom. I am confident that boat will last me more years than I'll probably be able to use it. I posted a picture from a repair shop which had fixed a failed transom. He saw the the job I did with the sealant, (this inside was a mess) and commented "now that's what we like to see". He agreed, no worriers as far as that goes.

As the former owner of a 2000 203, I can tell you you got one of the best ever. Mine was absolutely solid as a rock when I got rid of it. If it wouldn't have been for that damn new boat bug, I'd still be running it. They are awesome rigs
