Ft. # torque specs need for jackplate installation

Hello fellow ChampioN owners and Certified Techs.

I have a 1998 ChampioN 171DC with a 1998 Mercury 135L. The original 3/8" thick Rite-Hite jackplate sheared off a side bolt and the bottom height adjusting bolt. Too much power from that 135 I guess, LOL...just kidding, this jackplaste was 13 years old.

Anyway, I have purchased a new 1/2" thick Rite-Hite Jack plate.

My question is, what is the torque spec for the bolts that mount the "jackplate to the transom".......and the torque spec for the bolts that mount the "engine to the jackplate"

    Thanks for your help.

Good suggestion, I will do that.

    Thanks Lpolk.

Sorry can't keep my mouth shut here...

If you had *one* rite hite cancer case, why did you replace it with another cancer case???

The original factory installed 3/8" thick Rite-Hite jackplate isn't a cancer case as you put it. The jackplate itself did not fail, rather the bolts to the jackplate did. Seeing as the engine produces torque loads on the bolts, and the bolts were 13 years old and over torqued at one point. I'd say the jackplate has served me well.

The reason for going with an upgraded 1/2" thick top adjusting Rite-Hite jackplate is because I was able to buy a brand new jackplate from the manufacture with a life time warranty for $199.00 dollars.

Hate to spit on your wheaties, but the reason the bolts failed was the bad design to begin with. I fell for that same line the first two rite hites that failed on me. I sincerely hope you don't have any issues, but if anyone asks, that plate is indeed cancer.
