    PowerPole Battery Hookup Question 1/12/15

    Hello,

I'm new to the Bass Boat world lol. Long time musky fisherman who bass fishes a lot, went from a Lund with talons to a Nitro with PP's and have a question. I'm running a 3 battery system. TM gets 2 batteries and 1 cranking for everything else. Dealer connected my PP's to my cranking battery. I have a min on/off switch for it. When I turn it on and fish for 2-5 hours or so, half day we'll say, I notice a huge drop in my voltage o my cranking battery. So much so, I set a voltage alarm on my H'birds (down to 7 volts). Should it really drain that much? I know when it's on it's "listening" for a signal, drawing power, but should it be that much? I have 3 H'birds on my cranking battery. Suggestions? should i get a 4th battery just for my PP's? - Thanks

What size and type of battery do you have for your cranking battery, how old is it, and what outboard do you have? How do you charge the cranking battery between trips?

    BTW, welcome to BBC!

Chances are the 24M is just too small. They make a 24XHD that is acceptable, but most people find they need to upsize their cranking battery to a 29 or 31 series. Depending on your outboard, another 29 (Walmart Maxx 29 is the same as the Interstate but cheaper) may work as a cranking battery.
