    2005 225 HO electrical issues

    Guys:

Been fighting electrical issues since spring. Replaced my cranking battery after weak starting issues last may while down ay KY lake - thanx to Rodney for Jett-A getting me back on the water - ran great for about a month - back to dead cranking battery issues sporadically throughtout a tourney day - but not every time. Water levels were all good in the new battery, and charger checked out to 12 V. Mentioned it to the dealer when in for a Lower unit replacement(oops). BRP told them not to replace the starter, but just buy a rebuild kit for the internal parts. I said ok - no prob. Well, lasted about a month and back to the same issues - had it rebuilt again in august - comes about a month - no starting. After it would not start a tthe ramp the last time, calmed down enough to take it to the local Evinrude reapir guy near the ramp. Rose Marine(Algonac Mi) - great guy. Diagnosed the starter selenoind and starter were oth bad. with another new battery - was back on the water - 3 hours later - had to jump it on the water to get home. Any ideas? dropped it back off, and they are thinking it goes back through the charging system as far back as the alt, voltage regulator, stator, and/or computer.

Now for my aggrevation beyond the obvious - warranty expired end of July. BRP says since the dealer opted to buy the rebuilt kit and not report it ass warranty - it is now my problem and they are not responsible. Not getting too far yet - but since I have pinnacle Extended warranty and the dealer metntioned this- they are trying to push it onto them . I don't get it - a 2005 motor should not have electrical probs at around 200 hours.

Any/all suggestions would be greatly appreciated since the smallies are biting and the frost on the pumpkin is about here.

Seems to me your dealer and BRP need to need to talk. If BRP told them to buy a rebuild kit, then BRP should cover it. Hope you get it worked out. I would hold my thumb on my dealer to get it fixed if the problem happened befor the warranty went out.

Re: 2005 225 HO electrical issues (ELGIN)

changed dealers from ranger to just an evinrude guy - he seems to be on top of diagnosing the problem - got upstream to the PDP (power distribution Panel) being replaced and an intermittant bad circuit breaker. The new dealer coordinated with old one and BRP with no success - gonna get the local zone rep out here next. Since they are calling for wet snow next week, could have 6 months to get this worked out.

    thanx guys!

    Jack,
Not sure who you are dealing with on your motor, but give Dave Zammitt a call at Lockemans in Detroit.

    Re: 2005 225 HO electrical issues (225ETECHO)

thanx for the contact - if this gets any more complicated - I'll do that. I have Rose Marine in Algonac working on it- Bill is awesome how he has handled it so far, but has run into roadblocks at BRP. I"m gonna ge tthwe zone rep from BRP out there - seems to me that BRP not trusting the dealers in conjuction with a 2005 HO with electrical problems(probably known to them as an issue) is BS to push down on the customer. I'll post the results as they progress. Unfortunately, seems like season is now over for me. Come on spring!

    Re: 2005 225 HO electrical issues (yukonjack2)

well, progress finally being made! Dealer found the cable from the starter selenoid to the starter(inside the cowling) looked good at the connections, but was completely green corroded inside the red PVC Jacket - looks can be deceiving. Replaced the cable, and cleaned up the battery connections again just to be sure, put on yet another starter that this cable has burned up, and walla - seems to have cured the electrical issues. Now, have to convince the local BRP zone rep that an internal motor cable from an 05 225 HO should not be internally corroded completely and intermittantly through the 2008 season. Either way, glad to have my hotrod back before Ice-in. Now, getting the poppet thing done, and putting in the QC10wep plugs - should run like never before in these low air temps. Let ya'll know soon enough!

    thanx
