    203 250 SHO

I put a 250 SHO on my 203 a week ago. What a great engine. The bottom end and mid range are unreal. Have tried two props at this point 26 Fury with nothing done to it runs 70.5 and a 26 Tempest worked by Marks right at 72. Both of these are with a tornament load. Hoping with some more prop testing I can get that speed up some. From what I have seen the fuel mileage is about 4 at WOT. Ran about 100 miles this weekend flat out.

I would think it would be quite a bit faster than that?

That is impressive. Keep in mind the sho and prop combo's are still being played with with different hulls. Probably 73-75 mph boat with it running perfect. I know my 198 loaded with tournament wight only sees 68

    Re: 203 250 SHO (DanielM)

Some thing you might need to know. There was 300 lb me in the boat and a partner that had to go 350. This engine has about 4 hours on it. Its not broke in which may or may not make a difference. I was in a 60 boat tournament Rangers and other Champs running 250 HPDIs and Mercs I was never passed in two days. This boat will run mid to upper 70s when its sorted out. It did with a two stroke on it.

I would think that boat with a 250 and tournament load would be an easy 75mph boat. Good luck on finding the right prop for it.

I think he sounds like he is enjoying his rig!!! As he should! My boat may be capable of higher numbers, but I am well content with what I have seen!

    Re: 203 250 SHO (hooken203)

Boy am I glad I put those numbers up there. If you turn a 26 pitch prop through a 1.75 ratio at 5700 with 10% slip thats 72mph. Now you might be able to get to 8 or 9 percent slip but I doubt it.When I get passed by your 75 mph Champ with a 250 on it then I will be a believer.

    25p @ 6000 rmp has a theoretical speep of 81 mph,,,on a good day I have 9% slip and run 74,,,on a good day. The older 203's are faster.

    Re: 203 250 SHO (Hillsreels)

Well I got to fish by myself so the boat was 300 lbs lighter. 75.7 at 5900. Thats more like it. Still got some room for improvement. I think this set up will run better when the engine is broken in. Its still adding gas to the oil and that cant help the way the engine makes power. Going to run out of time this year I think. Its time to grab the bow and go sit in a tree real soon.

Re: 203 250 SHO (FSHN ROD)

I wish I would have got a scale and had the dealer weigh it before they put it on. I didnt so I have to go with the info from Yamaha I think thats 505-515 thats less than the 539 of the Vmax I took off. Plus I lost the oil tank in the boat which has to be about 20 lbs when its full. I know the boat sits in the water about the same. Getting these boats to run an honest 75+ mph with a full tournament load is not easy. Tournament load being two guys 250lbs each most tounament fishermen that I have met are not horse jockeys. Full tank of gas. Full live wells. And your partners tackle bag thats always equal to his weight. And even if I had posted that it ran 90 mph there is always my buddys brother in laws cousin that has one with fifty less HP that runs 92
