    Bearing replacement on my trailer

How difficult is this? I'm getting a rhythmic knocking in my wheel and I think that's what it is. It just started, so I want to get these things replaced before I cause some serious damage. Also, any suggestions where I can pick up some new bearings would be much appreciated.

Difficult, no... the bearing usually has it size on the side of it and 95% of most auto parts stores will have them in stock..

    From Sherms Tips' page..

That link shows just about everything you need to know - but if you need to replace the races (he calls them cups) - then it can be a little tricky but it's not too hard if you know how to do it.

I'm sure many on here can help out...

    Good Luck...

BTW - did you jack it up and spin the wheels just to make sure it's bearing noise?

Hate to see you go thru this if it turns out to be something else...

If you jack it up and put one hand a 12 oclock and the other a 6 and move back and forth if it's a bearing you should hear the knocking noise, some times it is a loose bearing nut. But I would pull wheel and check it anyway if you hear knocking noise.

Re: Bearing replacement on my trailer (ChampRunner204)

What a mess!!! I did get everything, including the races replaced. It took a L68110 and not a L68111 which I would never have found without taking them out. Wish they would put that number somewhere else!

The right-side bearing simply disintegrated when I was wiping out the old grease so I'm pretty sure that was the problem. There's no way I would have made it very far towing without something catastrophic happening.

Thanks to all for your help. It wasn't too bad, just really messy and those races were difficult to remove... Tap tap tap, 1/4 turn, tap tap tap 1/4, repeat repeat repeat.
