One of the main reasons I ended up in a V20 was because of the dealership I was purchasing from....Grammer Marine has been fantastic! I had previously purchased 2 boats from a local dealership (Ranger and Nitro) but this time around I felt uncomfortable doing business with them (For various reasons that I won't go into detail about!). However, that in combination with some service blunders was enough for me to look elsewhere for my next purchase.

No dealer WANTS to service a boat purchased elsewhere and why should he, unless you moved or something. He WILL service it but you just will not be a priority customer. You may have to go to the end of the line. You don't understand the warranty system with boats and motors I don't believe. The dealer does not get his regular hourly rate with warranty service. So he is loosing money doing warranty work over normal shop rates. Actually, you probably weren't even talking to the dealer, you were probably talking to the Legend rep. I know this dealer and he WILL service boats he didn't sell and does it all the time. He's never sold Rangers and they are in his service lot all the time. So what's that tell you?

Dealer is everything, the sad thing is some dealers will sell their boats cheap so they can say we sold ## this past year. What they don't tell you is they made 1000 dollars profit on each boat. There are a lot of good boat manufacturers out there but a dealer can absolutely ruin the process. On the flip side you buy local they take very good care of you, and always there to help. I have had two legends and have never had warranty work done on the boat, only the motor. With the price's they way they are I suggest you by the boat you LOVE cause you will own it for a long time. I boat my dream boat and will probably die in it.

I hope the experience with your local dealer doesn't turn you away from Legend as I have yet to see a better built boat. Furthermore, the customer service at Legend is fantastic as they stand behind their product and truly make you a part of the Legend Family. The V20 is an awesome boat and the most impressive I've ever been in. As far as a dealer, I purchased from Grammer Marine and would highly recommend them to anyone.

Have you checked with Jonathan at West Central Marine in Lincoln, Mo? Little bit of a drive, but great price. Haven't had any problems with boat, but he has answered his cell every time I call for " how does this work" questions.

Dealer makes the same amount off a warranty, rather he sold it or not.

But taking care of the customer as a dealer for the boat company will either earn you more customers or drive them away.

I have had nothing but great experiences with my dealership and Legend. When I had a few issues with set up on my VRod Legend worked great with my dealership and I. I don't know how many people that are just normal guys get calls from boat manufactures on their boats or have an owner deliver it and says "thank you for trusting legend" and gave me follow up calls making sure the Legend team met my expitation. I've met guys that drive 4-5 + hours to deal with SMI. Service after the sale has been top shelf. I'm not a Legend or SMI employee but I can't say enough positive things about the both of them. Like I've said before if you can find a better boat buy it!!

Heck, I live 2.5 hours from the legend factory and you don't hardly ever see one of them around here. As far as I know, the closest dealer is several hours away.

Its worth the drive to Louisville to work with the guys at SMI Marine. I am also from the Rockford/Greenville Michigan area and I drive right past D&R Sports and make the journey to get my stuff done right. It's also a great excuse to go fish the Cumberland or Kentucky Lake. Though I wish they would open up a SMI North here in Michigan.
