    VRO oil

I know that this might sound as a stupid question, but at my age I get confused a lot. I just aquired a 1989 150 xp E150TLCEM abd there are three oils that come under Evinrude X30,X50 and X100.
Which in your valued experiance do you recommed I use and why?

    Please excuse my ignorance.

    Re: VRO oil (fogawee)

    No problem:

    XD-30 is a straight TCW-3 fossil oil
XD-50 is a synthetic blend with Carb-x added to the formula to reduce carbon buildup
XD-100 fully synthetic with no ash build up and carb-x added to eliminate carbon buildup.

That being said, I would suggest you run XD-50 as your motor is a carbed motor and consumes more oil than a DFI (direct fuel injected) motor. You motor doesn't have a return line to the oil tank like the DFI's and E-tec's do so all of your oil goes out the exhaust. Cost is less when you by in bulk on the XD-50 vs. XD-100. You will have to decarb your motor at the normal service recommendation time (approx 100 hrs).
You can run the XD-30 it is the least expensive of all, you will still need to decarb but I like the XD-50 as it is a cleaner burning oil and leaves less residue in the engine. Hope this helps.

Congrats on your new purchase the 90* cross-flow motors are very stout.

    Re: VRO oil (fogawee)

I asked this same question about a week ago and got the same answer from Elgin.

    http://www.bbcboards.net...22293

From what I understand, you don't NOT want to mix your old oil with the newer XD-50. (not sure about the XD-30...

I am just about out of the old TC-W3 oil so I am looking to buy new oil myself.
I used to buy my oil in bulk which was cheaper, but now that my dealer went out of business, I am having trouble finding any BRP oil in my area.

I am running a 1985 Evinrude 150 and will take the advice here and buy the XD-50 oil.

I have another question for smaller motors and the oil.
I have a 1988 Evinrude 8 hp motor running on the Accu-Mix oiling system.
Will the XD-50 oil work being pumped through the Accu-Mix oiler?
Or should I just use the XD-30 for the 8 hp kicker?

I run the Penn Semi-synthetic. I have it on very good authority it is the same as the Merc Semi-synthetic. I have noticed when I have run the OMC oil, it smokes a little less, but it costs alot more money, since I can't get it in bulk around here.

I have had good experiences with the Penn oil, and I run seafoam in my gas every few tanks to make sure I don't have carbon issues.

If you can find the BRP oil in bulk, I would recommend it. Maybe when my big 2.5 gallon tank of Penn is dry, I will see if I can find it in bulk somewhere out of town.

I didn't say this and repeat I didn't say this but Merc Premium Plus is OK to run in your motor if you have no BRP dealer near by. Not Premium but PLUS.

Thank you Gentleman specially Champion man, I got X50 in the gallon about $30 at Cabelas, one opened 10 miles from me, last month. Lots of nice stuff in there to spend money on.

Anyway, I beleive that the 150 XP is a good engine don't see too many parted out, but I keep looking.

Joe--I switched to XD-50 this season on my 1992 V6 225-HP. I can buy it from my local dealer in bulk.

When we were down in Bass Boat country (Watts Bar Lake, Tennessee) last fall, I saw Evinrude oil on sale at the local WALMART store.

    Re: VRO oil (JoeKriz)

    Good morning (joeKriz).

I also have an Accu-Mix system on a 1993 8hp Johnson that I couldn't get to work, the unit is new and I also purchased a new HD pump for it but still no go

I used XD-30 and XD-50, motor starts but will only run for a moment, original or new HD pump are the same as far as running time.

Motor runs well when connected to 2 gal, tank, could it be that being connected to my main 130 hp motor tank that this is to much for this small pump to lift fuel through a water filter,on my main under floor tank? thanks for your time..

    Re: VRO oil (claude)

    claude,

I have no problem with my existing Accu-Mix system.
I am setup just like you it sounds like.
My Accu-Mix is connected directly to my Fuel/Water separator which is connected to my 63 gallon under deck fuel tank. I have a fuel bulb between the Accu-Mix and the 8 hp. I think this is a must.

I put the HD fuel pump on my 8 hp before I ever tried to use the Accu-Mix so I have no idea about the original small fuel pump...

You might read this article I wrote on installing a kicker and the Accu-Mix oiling system.
    http://www.whalercentral.com/r...id=48

I also have the installation instructions for the Accu-Mix system here if you don't have a copy.
    http://www.whalercentral.com/r...id=26

Again, my Accu-Mix works just fine on the original TC-W3 oil.
I was just wondering if the Accu-Mix would work using the newer XD-50 oil or if I need to stay with the XD-30 which from what I understand, is the same as the old TC-W3 oil....

    Jimh,
Thanks. My local Wal-Mart doesn't carry it so I didn't think about looking at the larger Wal-Marts in the larger towns... I'll check it out.
I probably won't use my boat again this year (unless the weather gets better) so this gives me all winter to find some oil.

    Re: VRO oil (claude)

    claude,

I just thought of one more thing.

You CANNOT have an anti-syphon valve in the fuel lines coming from the tank or the fuel/water separator... The Accu-Mix CANNOT draw fuel thru an anti-syphon valve...

Check to see if you have one on your tank or your fuel/water separator....
