    No Rpms

My 07 200 with a 225 pro xs will not exceed 5400 RPMs. suppose get power at 5800 .I was wondering if the rear is not getting up enough to let the motor rev.It will go 65 to 68 mph gps tourney loaded but seems like i could get some more speed with more RPMs.My dealer says that year Pro Xs would not spin that high but can.t explaine why.I can,t find a Merc site on BBC.I thought there was one.Wondering if others with this boat has the same problem? I have 10 inch plate 3.50 inches above pad tempest 25 pitch prop.Does have a lot of batteries in the back 101 MinnKota.I have heard Champs are weight sensitive .I load heavy in the rear should i move more to the front?what do you think?(boat seems to plane ok) but stears hard on pad is that normal? A lot of question i know but need help.

Can't help with the RPM trouble, but someone will be along. In the meantime here is the MERC forum: http://www.bbcboards.net/zeroforum?id=53

I sure hope you mean 3.5 " BELOW pad. How is your hole shot? If the prop is a Tempest PLUS, that prop should definitely be the right one, however, it might need to be worked. Some of the Tempests are not perfect out of the box.

Champs are indeed load sensitive, but the most weight definitely should be in the rear. Stiffer steering on pad is normal...

The folks in the Merc forum can tell you what rpms you need. BTW 68 is not a bad speed tourney loaded. Best I can do with my 198 (essentially the same boat) is 70, but I am spinning at 5750 with regular Opti, not XS.

According to Mercury Marine web site, the max rpms for your motor are 5500-6000.

Sounds about right for that boat. Loaded with hot weather 65-68 is good I don't think you can expect much more than that.

Dennis I think that people don't take into account of the weather. I had to expierence it first hand. For me i loose about anywhere from 2mph-to around 4mph depending on the conditions. My MPH is by no means a constant. When it is cool to cold that Merc is a hoss, 80+degrees it just won't go as fast even though the RPMs remain constant.

Motors don't like hear or humidity and it makes them run like crap! Everyone complains during the summer about their boats lagging! Its just life!

A lot of guys on the merc board are having fuel lines go bad. You should check that because it will make it go flat on the big end.

    Re: No Rpms (Robert Williams)

From the sound of your numbers, it does not appear to be a boat issue. If you were getting full rpms, and boat still did not get good GPS numbers, then that would be different. Since you are not getting the rpms, sounds like a motor or prop issue.

Good luck and keep us posted.
