2007 Champion 200 Elite - TRAILER BRAKES QUESTION

I have a tandem trailer for my 200 Elite. Today, I traveled only 15 miles to the lake....and my rear tires were screamin' hot! Not the tires...but I believe the brakes themselves. When I dropped the boat in....the wheels were so hot, that I had smoke come up from both sides.

Then... I drove boat home, and same thing.

I have a tourny in 7 hours---and am concerned.... is there a way I can just shut off those brakes temporarily? Could it be a wire? I did check the brake fluid...and its filled.

The trailer/boat are in great condition...but I don't know whats going on here?

Sounds too me like your brakes didn't release. I wish I could help you. Post this over in the lounge or maybe the trailering forum and see what you come up with.

I know on a Ranger Trail you can manually release the brakes on some trailers but not sure on your trailer.

OK> soooo I'm leaving in 2 hours for my tourny, haven't gone to sleep yet cuz I really really needed to figure this one out. After searching "locked brakes" within these BBC boards, I found that....the other day I pulled the breakaway cable by accident as I left it hooked up to the hitch....well. I DIDN'T PRESS THE BREAKAWAY SYSTEM RESET

So...now my question is....did I ruin my brakes? How do I know that?

I had a buddy that bought a 200 and when he would back his boat into his stall and unhooked and swung the swing away tongue the brake hose would kink...then he would hook back up and the brake line would stay kinked locking the brakes down. It took him a while to figure out that this was going on, but he asked a trailer parts guy if he had done damage to the brakes or rotors and the guy told him that as long as the rotors weren't discolored then he would probably be fine. And since then he hasn't had any brake problems.

He replaced the brake line with a slightly shorter stainless braided line at the pivot point on the trailer tongue to keep it from kinking up. I think it was just cut to long from the factory to begin with that caused the problem
