01 champion 193 01 200 johnson ho speed vs putting 200 pro xs

I GPS at 68.2 on Lake Mead. Just me and full tank in the summer. What difference other than fuel econ would i get. I wonder if top end would be any different. The new Mercury 200 Pro XS weighs 550lbs. I think it is the same weight as my motor? Any adc=vice or Info. Lea if you reply good to hear from you. I be back on more.

I GPS about 71-72 in my 196 Elite (same year boat) on Mead. I think you should definitely be moving a bit faster than me in that lighter boat. I am running a 200 Opti with 24p Tempest Plus on a 10" Hydro Jack and 3.5" below pad. I don't think you have too much to gain by updating your engine at this point. Obviously it is a better engine and newer, but if your engine is running good than a 13k investment for a couple mph gain seems overkill in my opinion. I would assume that there are other ways to gain a bit more for much cheaper.

Hi Greg...good to see you back! Not sure I would change out the motor. But I honestly don't know if you would get more speed or not....I'll leave that to the experts...

The ProXS lists at 505. The 2001 200's (only 225HO's in 2001...no such thing as a 200HO Johnson) weigh 450 lbs. So the opti is 55 lbs heavier which won't make much a difference on a boat like a champ. I would say the Proxs will run a little faster but not a bunch. Better running and fuel/oil usage will be much better with the opti. The bad thing about the opti is they sound like crap IMO.

Might get 2-3 mph more out of it. Like stated previously better fuel mileage/ oil consumption. Best I got outta mine was right at 71 mph w/ a Yammie 200 turning a tempest. You are already about where you need to be........

Ain't a darned thing wrong with a carbed 200 Johnny I run one and it pushes my 201 just fine generally WFO 65-67 GPS range depending on WX conditions. For the cost to convert now not worth it $$$ wise unless I got a superspecial deal on a 2004 225 HO DFI.
