Whats the speeds/how's the ride on these new 183's with 150 opti's? Been seeing quotes of them being "the best18'er out there"?? According to their specs, dang thing is HEAVY for a 18'er!!

You're gonna be surprised when the owners chime in here, Will. That "heavy" boat has a heck of a great ride and speeds that will surprise you. Not a Bullet, Ally or Stroker speed, but very decent!! Properly set up, I think you can expect 60+.
I have a ton more magazines...need any?Been too long since we've seen each other!!
LOL!! Yeah magazines would be great but shipping would break the bank.
Just doing some homework before December, checking on different boats. Really like the newer Champs but really unsure of what or when I'll buy, especially if I move back to Virginia. If that happens I'll probably be BROKE!!

Max speed I have seen is 61.4 gps. That was under ideal conditions so a realistic tournament speed for my boat is 59-60 no livewell. Once I had the livewells full and that does pull down the 150 hp, mostly because the 150 loses bow lift with livewells full. The position of the gas tank (behind the livewells but not in the far rear of the boat) is perfect in my mind for a compromise of speed and ride.
The reports of being the best 18ft out their are legit. I have outrun several other 18ft brands with 150's. Ran in rough stuff on some big lakes, and I have a distinct advantage over bigger boats on my home lake ( Grand Lake Oklahoma) in getting in and out of docks and fishing deep in brush when the water is high.
It may not be the best boat ChampioN ever produced but imho the 183 will go down in ChampioN history as one of the best models ever produced and rightly deserves that distinction.
Also note that my 150 optimax is real easy on fuel mileage.
The 183 cx rides smooth the hull design cuts the waves rather than slapping. Make a hard left or right? Hold on tight because this hull will flat out do it!
The front deck is a behemoth for an 18 footer, storage awesome, seat position ideal, 40 gal live-well, 40 gal gas tank, good size cooler, top level quality in construction. Whats not to like?
I run 5500 RPM's Max and a top speed of 58.50 GPS. And the Optimax 150 is a miser on fuel and oil.
This boat is by far the best 18 footer on the market!
Only thing I think they could have done better is: the trailer

The ride has to be great, I just don't understand the speed with this thing!?? Also, how can the 183 Elite be the same at every spec but be rated for a 175...besides $$$? Most every 18'er out the runs a constant 60-68'ish, heck my ol Skeeter ZX with the 175 topped 70 a couple times. I know the ride would and will be different under the many different water conditions...just can't get over how good that 183 looks!! Has to be the best laid out 18'er for sure.

Put a true 1-2' chop on the water and throw in some boat wakes and most any 18-footer will be looking at the a@@-end of a ChamP - throw some cornering in the mix and fuggeett abouut ittt![]()

Don't feel bad, Butch...I couldn't understand him either!!!!![]()
I suspect you could get on the TM and make any boat rock if you really tried.![]()
I had a 176 with 86" beam. I could make that one rock, but no problem fishing and superior ride!!. My 187 a tad wider, still great ride and fishability....
Newer "beam forward" models are excellent!

Goofy,
Yes I'm on Grand Lake in a 183. It seems as though you have been in the boat market for a while. The 183 is as stabil an 18ft as I been in.
No offense Goofy but you have been on just about every boat board with some sort of problem or critisism about every brand out there. What gives? I know a great delaer in South East Kansas that would be glad to let you have all the face time you want with a 188 or a 200 Champ. Let me know if I can help you in your quest to find the perfect boat![]()
I just can't figure out how you came up with the name Goofy...![]()
