    NTM 1994 Champ 190

I bought this about 2 months ago. It was just sitting in a guys driveway on the side of his house, on the north side so it had mold on the carpet everywhere. The top was oxidized but not real bad. I bought it anyway cause it was a 19 with a 200 mercury on back. I buffed the boat for 2 days now it shines. Cleaned the carpet it looks good also. It is a little late for me to start to get it setup to run the way I want it but I'm wanting ideas on what you guys would do first. I tried to measure motor below pad no jack plate it looks like 4 1/2 to 5 inches below. When I got the boat it had a (I think) 4 blade predator 24p WOT it would run about 55 mph at 5800 rpm I found a cheap $ 25p 3 blade Ballistic and got about the same 55 mph but I could go 5800 rpm and had more but didn't want to go higher rpm's. I did a test run with a 25p tempest and got over 60 at 5600 and still had a little more. I read that Pat says the Tempest is a good prop for this boat so I'll probably go that route and have it B&B. Here's the pic of my first Champion.

Hi and welcome!! What is NTM??
Sounds like you made a great find!!!!
Best measurement is 3.5 below pad and Pat is correct. Our Champs prefer Tempest Plus props. You will need to experiment a tad with the PVS plugs to find the best for your outfit.

Congrats on your Champion and glad you joined us!!!!

I have a 1993 190 Champion -got it a little over a year ago. Its a nice rig for its age. I would like to do do some tweaking myself with set up as well. Let us know how you do. Good luck - you'll love the Champ if you never had one. Even the old ones are awesome rigs!!

    Lea,

I believe with no jackplate, the motor needs to be lower than 3.5" below pad.

Pat will be along to set us straight

Congrats on the new rig 101, looks great!

I'm out in Pacific. I fish Table Rock (in-laws live there) Lake Ozark (lived there for a couple years) Pomme mostly. Love Truman and Mark Twain at certain times of the year.

Very nice! Welcome to the family.

PS: Am I the only one who digs the trailer rims from back then?

Lol, just read that you already tried a 25 tempest. Dang BBC on the small iPhone screen!!

I fish bull shoals, lake o some the past couple of years, and twain sometimes in the summer. If ya could find a jackplate and a 25 tempest ya should be in biz for close to 70 in that 190.

Re: NTM 1994 Champ 190 (mixermarkb)

I just bought a 1995 190 scx elite and I'm try to fix it up as well... I'm only getting aroud 60mph @ 5400 right now with a 25 tempest. If I can get the rpm's up, she'll do much better....

    WELCOME!

What do you think of these jackplates? Would it be good enough for this boat.

I had one on my old rig and I think it sucked. (sorry but I am honest).

    Now have a slide-master!

    Re: NTM 1994 Champ 190 (bass101)

Man, the 190s are piling up around here....yours looks great, and I'm also big fan of the Speed Racer rims

got mine last fall after alot of shopping around.

Black 95 190DCX "all composite" w200 Mariner mag EFI. I've been struggling to get the setup dialed in to Pat's target numbers but its close. Best I've gotten is 65 gps, and that's about 3.75 in below the pad. At 3.5 in below I was getting too much rooster tail. Just added 2" spacers to my 6 in CMC plate and that helped get some lift in the bow. I've tried several props - but the 25M is Pat's choice for the 2.5 liter engine on the 190 if its a good wheel. John Mazar at MAZCO props is close by if you need prop work.

Right now I'm still breaking in the powerhead after rebuild this summer. Oil gear broke in half on Kentucky Lake. Not a good trip!

    Good luck w/yours

    Re: NTM 1994 Champ 190 (bass101)

    Welcome.
I run a 1994 184 with a slidemaster jack plate and a 4 blade Yamaha 23 pitch. Motor is a 150 EFI and the hole shot and top end are incredible for the boat and year. I can get 61-62 gps.

John's Hot Props in Nixa Missouri is where I bought my prop and he treated me very well.

    Re: NTM 1994 Champ 190 (bass101)

I have a 93 190 with a 200 merc, 6" rite hite jack plate and a 24" Predator prop worked over by Johns hot props and was running at 72 WOT GPS.After 5 years my Predator prop through a blade so I replaced it with a 24" trophy and now I am only running at 66 mph.I also run a 25" Tempest and it was a dog to get up on plain and didn't hold as well in turns as the 4 blades.Back then the Predator was the best prop for that boat.Send that predator prop to Johns hot props and he can work it over for you.

    190 setup...
W/2.5 200, a 6" plate (8" would work, but gotta replace steering cables) 25M yamaha prop set at 3 1/2" with trim extenders. Be very careful with early model 190's for weight, too much will kill them dead.
