    1999 203 Champion, 42" or 52" Minnkota Trolling motor??

I purchased the 52" but I haven't installed it yet. I got it because it's frustrating when I'm fishing a point and my trolling motor keeps going in and out of the water. However, I'm wondering if a 42" will work. The 52" is big and it hangs out past the side of the boat. Thanks for the opinions!

I would go with a 42 you can always adjust it so it sets further down, usually abt 14 inches below the bottom of the boat

I'm gonna disagree with Mike. Have had both. Now have 52" on my 198. Can always raise it, but when I had the 42", any boat wake and it was out of the water no matter how low I put it.

I do not find that it sticks off the side of the boat too far...

52 inch on my 198 and I would not even consider the 42 inch now.

Ive got a 2000 191 and the 42" motorguide spent more time out of the water than in. I put on a 52" and it is great. Our style Champs have rear tanks and they ride higher than most boats. 52" definitely.

I agree I have a 52" on my 210 and have it raised about 12in i can always lower it down in rough water, you have more options with 52 then 42 because of the length.

Just upgraded from a 42 to 52. Much better in rough water.

I have a 45" on my 203 that I keep just about all the way down. I considered lengthening the shaft to a 52", but then it would not fit under the cover. It does blow out now and then, but considering I had it on a Ranger 361, it now is in the water way more than before, even with the higher bow. When the day comes for a new cover, I'll probably make the switch.

I dont even own a Champ yet but you cant go wrong with a 52" shaft on a trolling motor
