Not Pat here, but I owned a 2000 203 for 4 years. HP rating was any V6. IMO, the 203 was one of the best all around performing hulls ever built. Pat will be able to give you alot more info and there are several guys with 203's of that vintage who post here often who have them runnin' good.
If you're thinking about buying one, one test drive and you'll be sold![]()

This on e has a 200 on it and I think it might be underpowered. Cant have that you know resale and all.![]()
I don't know of any 203 that was ever rated for less than a 300 hp. I agree with Lea one of the best hull ever designed![]()
Own a 2008 203 as do several several friends that stay here when they fish Lake Seminole..![]()
LOLthere are moments when I think my 250 should have been a 300 lol

What kind of numbers do you run with a 250?

I wouldn't want one with a 200.........mine had a 225 and would have easily handled a 250. A well setup rear tank 203 with a 225 is good for low to mid 70's and a 250 for mid to upper 70's

Limp wristed sister with a 200, sorry. That boat was designed to run a 3.0L motor. More the better....

Always try to sell what's on there and find another motor, lot's of ways to skin the cat if you like the hull.
A 203 w/200 would probably be owned by someone who wasn't interested in running the dog snot out of it, might be a real bargain if you are willing to do a little work.

A little over 14,000 but I dont know how much of a deal it would be after a motor swap and electronics and things like that.
Oh by the way Pat, the deadrise on the champ hulls does this make it easier to balance the boat on the pad? Seems like to me , but I am not an engineer, that the sharper the hull the more stable it would be when you have it completely on the pad. Other hulls are very flat @ the pad thus would this make chine walk more of an issue or am I wrong?
Actually for most boats it's the opposite, the wide flat pads are easier to control.
*Most* of the narrow pad hulls are notorious chine walkers, Allison, Toons, etc.
You know I was told the reason the deep v wedge can have a narrow pad, and still maintain better balance, but as you know I'm a child of the 70's and things get foggy. It has to do with the transom angles, and how everything relates, maybe I'll drink a red bull and snap back into reality.

I was given the molecular theory behind the hull design years ago, but now I'm just a mud puddle with eyes, can't remember squat.
I do know that theory is why Storie fought a wider boat for so long. Something about the 86" beam being "perfect".

So how were you affiliated with Champ and why such the disgust with Ranger?
Disgust??? Those are angry words there pards.
I don't have disgust for the boat, they are what they are. What they aren't is the best thing ever, or even close to it. What they are is a product of a very good marketing program which uses fear and the deep desire to "belong" to perfection.
#1 example: The famous cut out boat, it's a scam and should always be called out for what it is, deception. If you take the same hull, no cutouts, leave the plug in and fill it full of water it'll sink to the rail, just like EVERY other bass boat made will do. Cut a hole in it, and it releases the water to seek its own level. Deception.
I was with champ from '84 to the implosion.

In the Manufacturing part? I have to say I am a little disappointed in Champ marketing I live in Ranger country. Rarely do I ever see a Champ. all Tritons Skeeters and Rangers . But I look in all the magazines and watch the shows on outdoor chanels and durring bass on ESPN and I never see a Champion ad. This has got me a little confused, but the brand loyalty from its owners and the fact that you can't find one used that is not an older boat speakswonders about the product. I am going to drive 6 hours just to test drive one. I owned a Ranger and I believe there is a better riding faster more useable platform or I would have stuck with them. Thanks Pat and you gotta teach me how to do that breach stop. I love the Champs running wild vid.part of the reason I was so impressed I would have never tried that in my Ranger.
You going to Michigan? I may be looking at the same boat, but just like you I am thinking twice with the 200 on the back.
" and we were catchin' 'em"
yeah I am but like you the engine is a little lacking I would like to see it with a 250 Merc or Hammer and No my fishing partner is knows some guys in MO that we might go spend a weekend with. When the smoke clears I want to wind up with a 20' Ranger, Triton, Skeeter Eater![]()
