    Leaking dry boxes 206dcx

Seems that with the jack plate that I currently have when coming off plane it throws water up on the back deck and I end up with water in my two dry boxes (one behind the driverside and the one behind the passenger side) which renders them useless. I have replaced the seals and checked and resealed the rub rails and it seems that its coming from the rivot strips along the edge of the carpet. Has anyone else experince this and if so how did you fix it. It looks like I'm going to have to pull the strips up and reseal and put the rivots back. Also what length are those rivots???
    Thanks,
    Kent

Unlikely that it is coming in where the carpet is rivoted in place. Overwash into rigging compartment is not uncommon till you get used to "goosing" the throttle just a tad as you come off plane and slow down. Although I must admit, I had not heard of water getting into the storage behind the seats unless the overwash was really bad.

Just trim the motor all the way down before you shut down, end of story. Seriously I bought a hole shot plate and did the goose thing. Helped a little but trimming all the way down kicked it completely.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. What is a hole shot plate???? Have thought about building a baffle to go on the top of the jack plate to deflect the water.

A hole shot plate goes on the bottom of the jackplate opening to help lift at take off (aka hole shot). I have one. Not sure if it helps keep following wave from coming over onto deck or not...I don't think so...

I don't think a baffle on top is going to help. You just have to learn how to prevent that following wave from catching you. You can't just fly in and suddenly shut down.

Yes a hole shot plate will help, I had a jack plate on my old boat (not a Champ) and the JP would scoop a half gallon of water back into the boat during certain chop. Sold it to my buddy, he made a home-made hole shot plate. dramatically reduced back wash on that boat.

Should need one on a Champ though!

Little experimentation with trim will likely suffice.

    Pattece,
Just as you said, trimmed all the way down and that cured it.
    Thanks,
Now I just have to figure out where the water is coming from that gets in the boxes.

if the rear boxes are getting wet and it isnt backwash then i would think overflow from livewell or rub rail, if you find it please let us know what you found.

Good point, Turtle.....I have heard of a situation where the top of the livewell was not sealed to the deck and water splashed over. A bead of silicone cured the problem....

Water seems to be coming is from around the rub rail in the back. Just finish resealing the whole area and has not fixed yet. Can't seem to get it to leak with the garden hose, just when taking off or shutting down. Guess I'll have to get someone to drive the boat while I have my head stuck down inside the box.
    More to follow.

When this happens, are your livewells full or empty?

If it is not rub rail and livewell is not overflowing or spilling into storage it has to be the transom cap is allowing water up and under and back flowing into compartments. Remove batteries and all objects blocking the view of rear transom area. Bring a good flashlight and back your boat in the water with the boat still strapped to trailer and back boat in until transom is submerged and see if it leaks around the rear. You will find your leak.

Good job for a nagging wife, find the leak and verify sound dampening.

Live wells are empty. Will try the trailer submerge and see what happens. Thanks for the idea.
