I'm new too! And just bought my1st bass boat

I just bought a 1990 201 and can't wait to get it rigged! I have an "04 Ficht 150 that I'm going to hang this week. Does anybody have any ideas as to where I should start for a prop?? I believe the 150hp will push it ok. I had the motor on a '79 20ft Mako and it performed fine. I've propped saltwater rigs, but not bass boats. I haven't even towed this boat yet, so I'm not sure what weight I'm even dealing with. Any help and ideas would be great!! I'm excited about just having something to get into tournaments with!! My WAG on the prop would be a 24 Raker or a 23 Tempist.

Be sure you start with prop shaft 3.5" below pad. Since I am not familiar with Mako set-up, I am hoping your motor has the short lower unit. Bass boats do not do well with the longer one...

According to my 1990 brochure, the boat weight is "approximately" 1300 lbs and the trailer weight is "approximately" 800 lbs. Add weight of motor, fuel, gear, etc to obtain a rough idea of towed weight.

Championman (Fred) , here on BBC, is the Moderator for Evinrude and Johnson motors. He has a 1989 201 and will be a source of great information for you.
Since the 201 is rated for "all V-6s", your 150 is underpowering it, but Fred can advise you...

A model number off the motor would be helpfull but. Back when I bought my 201 I had to put a 150 due to federation rules. That 150 DI is a pretty stought motor based on the fast strike/intruder block. Like Lea says 3.5 is about the right distance below the pad. Your looking at more like a 22 raker to keep the RPMs in the groove. Welcome to the Family just watch out for Skip!!

Hi,
My motor is an E150FSLSR. And it is, as you know now a 20" shaft. The boat has been sitting for 2 years. Someone hung a 25" shaft 225 ETEC on it. The Jackplate is all the way up and the motor is on the top hole to compensate for the long shaft. The only thing in my favor is that the boat has not been run with this set up. The 90* Etec is pretty heavy and with the long shaft, the weight distribution is way wrong. I realize my motor will be under what the Champion can handle, but for right now, it's all I have. I am a boat mechanic, and am probably going to part out the 225 Etec. It is a perfectly good running motor, but hard to sell a 25" shaft here. My 20ft Mako is the bay series and a 20" transom. If I can get enough money I may buy a motor for the Champion. I've even thought about forking out the money and converting the 225 Etec to a 20" shaft. I guess I haven't decided what I want to do yet.

Thank you! My motor is a 20" shaft and I left Fred a lengthy post on my plans and what I actually bought. I will take all the help I can get setting this up correctly. I'm just so excited about getting my hands on this boat!! Thank you again
