    Steering problem

I just purchased a 1997 Champion (18ft 1in) with 115 HP Evenrude. The problem is the engine will turn much farther in one direction that the other, it feels like it hits a stop. I disconnected the linkage and the engine turns to the stop in both directions. Also, the steering is dual cable and the wheel rotates a total of 2 1/2 revolutions. Thanks in advance, very difficult to drive.

Crank your steering wheel all the way to the left to retract the cables fully with the tie bar disconnected from the cables. This will place them in a fully retracted position close to the motor. Now manually move the motor so the tie bar lines up with the cable holes. Insert the bolt into the cables. And try that you should swing fully side to side.
