    champion 183 trailer

I love my 183 except for the trialer. It must have 350+lbs tongue weight, takes me and 3 gorillas to move it. Why did they move the axle so far back ob this boat? Being custom made for the boat, I see no way to help this situation. Am I the only one with a problem with this? If I could trade it in on a tandem I would, although I am sure it would be quite an expense.

    Have you contacted your dealer?

You can move the axle to make it easier to deal with. Just make sure you have the right tongue weight to keep from swaying while on the road.

Yes the tongue weight is heavy on a single axle 183 trailer, and the axle is mounted far back on the trailer.

It doesn't give me any grief as: I like the axle placement as it comes into play at some of the crappy launches. With the axle being placed where it is : it helps the boat to get off the trailer.

Also the trailer is much easier to maneuver in my garage as I must put the rig in diagonally.

Agree with Butch, easier to manuver around if needed (not here, I have a 40 ft garage ) but the tounge weight is more than usual.

If your bunks stick out past the transom, you can slide the winch stand back and move the CG back a littl bit.

slidding your boat back on your trailer will help a lot. When i first got my 184 it had a tremendous amount of tongue weight. I slid my boat back about two inches and it helped a bunch. I think 100-125 pounds of tongue weight is about right. You might want to check that before you move the axle.

I thought the rule for tongue weight is roughly 10% of the total weight. I think if you have too little, its not going to pull right - might wander.

It'll "wander" ALOT! If there's not enough tongue weight. Your'e correct on the 10%, it's 10% up to a certain amount of weight.

I'm going to check mine tonight, and see just how heavy the tongue weight is. Mine trailers fine at higher speeds, so it's probably OK where's it's at.
