    Steering Wheel

Anybody upgraded and bought a pimped out steering wheel for their boat. I lost my center cap this weekend and need a new one. I have a 2003 206 with original steering wheel and thought why not get a new steering wheel with a little bling. Pictures would be nice. Link as well.

    Re: Steering Wheel (pattece)

That's funny. I'm waiting for one that I ordered last week to show up. The UPS tracking # said it would be here today but no luck yet......My old steering wheel that came on my 2000 191 is pretty plain Jane so I thought I would replace it with a newer style.
I searched around and decided to order one that comes on some of the new Champions. Here's a link, hopefully it works!

Check out these! One looks like a Skeet Reese special (yellow/black).

I like the one you picked out. I guess steering wheels are universal and it will fit? Let me know when you get it and if you like it. I like the new champ steering wheels and the one you picked out is real close. I will probably go with that one if you like yours. Thanks. Looks sharp.

    Re: Steering Wheel (pattece)

Yea, the wheel is universal and it does look real close to the original Champion wheel. I DID try to determine before I purchased it if it would work so I mailed Champion. They did respond promptly but said they didn't know. Here's a excerpt from the email I got back from them.

"Your boat was pre-Genmar and manufactured in MT.Home, Arkansas. Since
there wasn't much info or data transferred in the sale, we don't know
what kind of steering system or steering wheel was used on your boat.

We suggest that you take your boat to a current Champion dealer to see
if the steering system is the same as is currently used or if a current
    wheel will fit."

Well I got the steering wheel about 10 minutes after I posted my email. It looks even better than it does in the picture! I ordered the hub as well (which you definitely need). My original wheel came off pretty easy too. I just need to find the time to install it now, which actually shouldn't take too long. I'll post some pictures when I do.

Total cost including shipping was about $115.00 with the hub assembly.

Well here it is! It was pretty simple to install. Couldn't have been much easier. I just had to have someone hold the wheel while I tightened the center nut. I haven't posted pictures in a while so I hope it works! [IMG][/IMG]

    Looks good!!!

How did you get the original wheel off, did it take a puller?

I have to take mine off to install pro-trim.

    Thanks, Rob

    Re: Steering Wheel (WaYoop)

Thanks! I rented a puller from my local Autozone. It cost's $20.00 and you have 90 days to return it and when you do, they refund you all of your money so it doesn't really cost you anything BUT, it didn't work. It wasn't designed for a steering wheel like mine, SO I used this method shown on the attached video and it worked flawlessly. I did kind or rock the wheel back and forth while I pulled it towards me. It came off much easier then I thought it would considering it has been there for 9 years!

Note: I did not tap on the center nut as hard as the person did in the video and the hammer I was using to strike with, was just your basic hammer.

    Good Luck!

    Re: Steering Wheel (Lea)

I was able to peel it off from my original center cap although I had my doubts it would come off in one piece!

That was fantastic, thanks. Only thing I have found bad about this site is now I am getting some much information I am spending to much money. I put a easy view system in my boat this weekend just cause someone else had it. Now the steering wheel. Next Blue waters. My wife is getting jealous of that blue beauty in the garage.
