Neglected to say the original rod locker covers and there and fully functional.

It is difficult to tell from the pic, but if they are the correct size you can install the seat lids in place of the carpeted fiberglass lids. They go on opposite sides from how the picture shows they are positioned and the hinges must be placed on the inboard edges rather than the outboard sides. Again hard to tell from the pictures, but you will just have to decide how much repair it needs and whether you are willing/capable of spending the time and money. In good shape these are really good riding and handling boats for a sub 18' boat.

Can you take a couple of pics of the rod lids without the cushioned things on top? I can see it's definitely a 176. (and, as pops said, the cushions are on the wrong sides....They are designed to open towards the middle.)

OK, via PMs, we have determined it is a 176 F&S. At this point it is probable that a prior owner had lids built. I did the same thing with my 176 F&S. I left the cushions in the garage. The only 89 brochure I have is on a pdf file and I cannot get it to open since I installed Windows 7. In 88 and in 90 there were a F&S as well as a Super Champ F&S, so am sure the same were available in 89. The Super Champ has less standard features (electronics, etc). It is the one I had. Hulls, etc are identical.
To further muddy the waters, in the 88 brochure (but not in the 90), they had what they called the F&S Tournament, which meant it had carpeted lids instead of the cushioned ones. I cannot tell from the brochure picture, whether or not that version had the side cushions which Bob says are on his boat....along with the hinges on the inboard side of the lids.
So, we have a 176 F&S....that part is for sure. Pretty much impossible to tell if it is the Super Champ version or the regular one. And I have no idea how to tell if it came from the factory with tournament lids with cushions purchased separately...etc....

The more I recollect, the more I think they're factory carpeted lids. Anyway, the bottom line is I can pick it up the way it sits for $800-$1000 (tops) and I'm giving it serious thought. Seems like a fair price given some of the clean up and work it needs.

Sounds good and a fun project....A neat older classic Champ!!!
(BTW, I had the factory make the lids for mine, so that ...factory-made...won't help unless you can track down the prior owner(s) to see who did what. That is, if the seller is not the original owner. That would certainly help if he was!! I removed the cushioned seats and installed the factory lids in their place.)

Man what a small world. Sorry to be the barrier of bad news bob but I bought it today. Too good of a deal to resist. Don't see to many champs in this condition for that price.
Tight lines everybody

Well, good for you Jermeya. It was a good deal. The seller didn't communicate too well as I had been talking with him since last week - just said he sold it! Anyway, my part was not making my intention clear or strong enough. Good for you though, I think it will be a great boat once fixed up.

This is a very old thread, Mark. What are you referring to?
