I may be replacing the midsection on a 2000 150HP Ficht engine. I was wanting to know are there any special tools, procedures, techniques, things to avoid, PITA factor, etc. thanks

I converted a 25" to a 20" midsection on a 1997 130 hp awhile ago. Removing the midsection is not that difficult. You will have to remove the motor from the boat, as the steering bracket and tube assembly has to come off.
Why do you have to change out a midsection?
Is it real difficult...no. Is it a PITA, from experience, I would have to say...yes.

If you have an extened warranty then you will only have to pay the deductible and Bomb should pay the rest or your insurance will, if it is a mfg defect or stump damage bomb will/should pay the former the latter is up to your ins, co. As far as a DIY the head has to come off the LU has to come off the mid-section needs to come off the hull. New mid installed then LU, then PH with new mating gasket, torqued to spec. 1st timer quite a PITA, wrench that has done it PIC (piece of Cake) CM![]()
I was wondering why is the lower unit installed before the powerhead? Just curious also the manual shows a torque value of 18-20 ft. lbs for the six large bolts holding the powerhead to the exhaust housing. Sounds kinda light? (18-20 ft. lb) thanks![]()
