Fueling problems with 2005 206 Elite

Have a heck of a time filling up the tank on this boat... have to feather the fuel dispenser handle to keep the pump from kicking off. My guess is that I've got a problem with either the vent or a kinked hose going into the tank from the cap... my question is: How do I get access to find and fix the problem?

    Thanks.

had the same boat and mine was a bear to....try picking pumps where the fill side is elevated....take the cover off the vent....take the fuel cap off on the way to the station...all these things made mine easier to fill.

I still can only get 20 of 26 gallons in my rear tank, and 17 of 26 gallons in my front tank... Doesn't matter what I do...

try turning the fuel nozzle 180 degrees and pumping works great on my 203.

I had the same problem with my 2006 206. I took the plastic fill tube from a 5 gallon gas container that as sitting in my garage and stuck it down the gas line. Fit perfectly and made filling the tank much easier. Not perfect but 80 to 90 percent better. Cheap and worth a try.

Every Champ owner I know has the same problem especially when the fuel level gets below quater of a tank. The problem is that the newer models like my 2007 200 Elite have an 'L' shaped tank which will allow to much disolved oxygen to scour the bottom as you fill it.

Simple solution: Never let it go below a quater of a tank and fill it slow.

I never fill mine over half thats one of the reasons my speeds are mostly in the 70's

Thanks for all the replies... have already tried turning the nozzle upside down... that doesn't seem to work very well.

Steve Dyer's comment about trying to find pumps that are elevated on the pump side is interesting... if that makes a difference would it be worth pulling the trailer tires on that side of the boat up onto a block of wood to make sure that side is always higher? And what does leaving the fuel cap off on the way to the gas station do?

    Thanks.

On my brother's 206, if we hold the pump handle at about 10 o'clock it fills up fast.

Re: Fueling problems with 2005 206 Elite (Allen)

i don't have that problem at all with my 2007 Champion, but I've had that problem with the last 3 boats I've owned, Hydrasports, Skeeter, Basscat, only when the gas tank is low (around 1/4 tank or lower). I had to SLOWLY add the gas, or it would spit it out!
