Champion trailer recall - assistance please?

Received a letter with pictures on how to tell if my trailer is okay or not, and it's kinda hard to decipher for a no-brain like me. Mechanical stuff is not my forte.

If I look at the hitch from the side, there is no gap. But if I look up under the connection towards the truck, I can see a gap.

I don't even know if I am explaining it right. One thing I do know is that it (the connection area) is absolutely covered in rust.

    Should I be worried?

Did you check here? http://www.bbcboards.net/zerothread/89257 that may help clear the issue.

I never got a copy of the ChampioN trailer swing away tongue recall letter to post. All I have in there is the spring recall for TI trailers.

I think only owners of the trailers with the possible issue received the notices...

There were pictures on here .. Not the spring recall...I'll try to fiind more...

    here ya go..

    Stratos also had the issue..

Contact any Champion or Stratos dealer. They should be able to help you determine if you have the issue or not. C&O Marine did a lot of the fixes....

Perhaps Todd can explain the "gap" a bit better...and you should clean up the rust and paint it....

Thanks so much for the link!

I don't have a Champion dealer within 300 miles. Maybe 400 as far as I know. The only one in Ontario, my home province, is about 24 hours drive away. Yes Ontario is a big place. :) I picked the boat up at C&O, and they were totally awesome people, but it's about a 16 hour drive so not something I relish doing if I don't have to.

I will call Champion and see what I should do.

    Thanks!

    Charles

Great idea, yes, there are several Stratos dealerships around. I will have to look in to which one I trust with my boat.

Thanks Lea, did not think of that option at all.

Let us know. It's a real easy fix if you need it, but a special bracket is needed. Stratos and Champion dealers both can get it..
