I have two Teleflex P/N 174675 sending units that I would like to install on my 1985 XP150.
Do I remove the stock horn alarm sending unit or attach these units via another method?
I plan to run two temperature gauges and one water pressure gauge.![]()

Melvin,
H20 pressure gauge "T's" into the discharge hose, temp senders would attach to the head, transferrance or the temp is down by touching the sender to the cylinder head. Not a very accurate measurement IMHO.

I have seen several methods of attaching the temp sender and have not liked and that just clamped on the side of the head. However, it seems that I saw somewhere, probably years ago that you dug out the stock horn ground sending unit and then screwed the new sender it's place but, you lost the horn alarm. Maybe that was back when the devil was a boy.![]()

OBTW, I don't what I was thinking when I asked that dumb question about teeing off the speedo water line for water pressure. Maybe too many Buds?sleepy or just plain out of it.

All clear on the temperature gauge and water gauges, as you stated the temp senders leaves a lot to be desired.
Just as a brain storm, how thick is the (part #0320840) Cylinder head cover? Just wondering if it is thick enough to drill, install a brass bushing to adjust the depth of the sender allowing the sender to be submerged into the water jacket.![]()

I'm pretty sure I have a port and starboard head just incase it don't work.

Hmmn, sounds like a winner. OBTW, I took the Teleflex gauges back and bought the genuine OMC gauges. I am much happier with the looks of the instruments now now, with only the fuel gauge being the only one bastard gauge. Sooner or later I will change it out as well.

The covers are very thin aluminum and there is not enough "meat" to drill and tap. Not only that, but the water that flows under the cover is very hot overboard water that has already passed by the thermostats and is picking up more heat from the top of the combustion chambers and spark plug areas. That is why those areas plug up with salt and they bake mud when run in salty or silty waters.

Thanks for the feedback. Since, my motor is so old, do you think I should pull those covers and check/clean if necessary or just for ha ha's being that it has seen it share of brackish and salt water?
Mind you, there isn't any indication or signs of any over heating. The only reasons for the additional gauges is just to monitor an old friends heath and to keep him healthy the same as I do for myself monitoring my blood pressure.
