What do I need in case I get a flat tire on my dual axle champ trailer?

Going on my first 5 hour trip and was wondering what to do to remove the tire to swap out with the spare? any tips?

are the brakes a problem?

a jack & the correct size tire wrench, and make sure that if you have that lock on your wheels, to have the key to them handy!

Actually,

a jack is optional, a 4 x 4 that you can pull the good tire up onto will get the flat off the ground enough to let you install the spare. On my wheels you need an allen wrench to get the center cap off, and narrow walled deep socket to get at the lug nuts.....

That's right.I've changed out lots of them with the piece of 4x4 on a tandem. My trailer is a single axle and I have a little routine. I have a breakover bar and socket for the prop in the boat all the time. I need a screwdriver to remove that center cap on my wheels, a deep socket for the lugs, and a jack. I use a type of jack that is one piece cast metal that works like a cam. You set it in front of the axle and pull the trailer forward about 8 inches and walla! the flat wheel is up in the air to change. I keep the screwdriver, deep socket, jack, and 2 small pieces of 2x4 to chock wheels in hotel lot in a knapsack on the front deck of my boat. That way if someone else tows it the necessary tools will get put in the towing truck and not be forgotten in my truck.

make sure your jack will go under the axle most bottle types wont go under axle when flat also remeber that in the case of a flat on dual axles if you hit something you may have two flats but you can run on one for a short distance

Dang Lea, you're on to something. That's what I need, 2 women to change my flat tire, that is if I can choose the 2. Now, how do I explain to my wife why I need 2 women along on a road trip to change a "flat" out......

I bought an aluminum floor jack at Harbor Freight for a hundred bucks and carry it in my truck toolbox. Fits under the axle and makes the job easy.

Exactly. Thats what I did on my horse trailer. Too heavy to use a jack with and dangerous too. Horses move around and down goes your trailer!! If your on a highway or other real busy road and can't get the horses out to jack up the trailer I used a deal that I bought that was made just for that.

Deltabound, I have a floor jack from wal-mart and also have a 3/4 in. drive ratchet with the right size socket to fit my trailer lugs. also carry a piece of 2x10x12" wood to put under jack if needed. never had a problem with the Brakes on my boat. all this is kept in the Yukon at all times.
