Fury Prop - What pitch for a 198 Elite w/225 Opti pro XS

Thinking to buy a Fury Prop and keep my tempest for a spare. I have a 198 Elite w/225 Opti pro XS. I would like good hole shots with decent top end. Which Fury would be recommended? I was thinking this one >>> http://www.mercurypartsexpress....html

Dennis, the guy who I bought my boat from thinks that the 26 fury would be the right one....I'd be interested in seeing your numbers with the fury. What kind of numbers are you getting now?

The dealer you are considering buying from, should let you try different sizes.... I would not recommend any one size until you try them...

    198, 225 Opti non-XS.

I have run two 25P Fury props on this boat.

The first I borrowed from a friend. Ran best at 3-3/4" below pad 5620rpm at 71+ mph GPS. SOOOOO I bought one, figure I can work with it.

The second one I started at 4" below pad and worked my up to 3" below pad. The prop hooked up and had good bow lift at all heights, but I ran out of RPM at 3" below pad. Hitting the rev limiter 5750 @ 70mph GPS. SOOOOOOOOO I traded it for a 26 Fury. I haven't had a chance to run the 26 yet.

I can't tell you how disappointed I was with that second Fury. I have a 25 Tempest, stock factory that will run those numbers.

Just as a side note, the first prop I borrowed came of a NXXX with a 250 Opti pro XS. With two of us in the boat it ran 73+mph GPS @ 5900rpm.

Both props factory out of the box.

It will never cease to amaze me in this age of complex measuring equipemnt and 6 sigma quality control, how differnt 2 supposedly identical new props can be. None of the engine makers could make part for an automaker if their Prop quailty control is an example of their overall quality control.

    Agree 100%

One time I had 3 26 pitch Mercury Trophy Plus props, all stock, and it was amazing how diffrent they ran. Tried all 3 on the same day/lake/boat (2005 BC Puma) WOT rpms varies as much as 400 between them.

The stock 26 Trophy Plus has always been a joke though!

Check out Jaco's Marine website. There are selling the Fury for 199.00 plus 20.00 shipping. You may need to call them to confirm cuz their wording on the site is a bit messed up. Good Luck
