Can you run a 101lb Maxumm on a 183 cx????

    Hi Guys,

I'm looking at purchasing a 183cx with a 150 hp HO Etec and am wondering if anyone out there is running a 101lb Maxxum on their rig?

I'm gonna be doing some fishing in salt where the tide can drain batteries pretty quickly, so I'd like to run a 101 just so I dont need to worry about runnin out of juice.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Regards
    Dave Young

yes it can be done, IMHO the highest thrust 24V trolling motor would do you just as well and with out the extra wieght of another battery in your boat

    Hi 08Champ188,

Thanks for the welcome. I'm all the way over in Australia...

I've got several mates that are running zx190 Skeeters who fish tidal waters alot and they complain of batteries running low by the end of the days fishing.... And the skeeters are a lighter boat than the 183cx..... Hence why I asked about running more thrust....

We also fish some lakes over here which do not allow you to start your combustion motor, so you must fish under electric power only all day.... Another reason I think a 101lb'er would be beneficial...

I'm just curious if the compartment at the back of the boat will have enough room to house the extra battery and charger? So that will mean 3x trolling motor batteries, 1x Crankin battery and 1x 3 bank charger...

in that case, I would definately go with a 36V tm.

You can run a 36 V tm & outboard off of a 3 battery setup also.

Wow Australia there are other options I have a 206 cx which is really heavy with a motor guide 82lb with Trojan batteries I can run 3 full days on one charge although it isn't in tidal waters or with current but with frequent high winds!

    Hi Chris,

    Thanks for your input...

An 80lb maxxum would probably suffice, but I figure if I'm upgrading I want to get every lil option I want... If I dont I'll only regret it later...

I'm a big fan of 130amp hr trojans, they are great batteries.

I should be able to run for weeks with three of those bad boys loaded up!

    Hi Dave

Glad you found us and welcome !! Lea will be along shortly,I think . She is our factory interface and she get you an answer from them or I'm sure someone who is running a 183 will get back to you. I curious as to what kind of fish are you stalking in your inland lakes ? Imported Florida black bass ? or some larger monsters ?

It can be done. Be aware that if you buy one with too long of a shaft, you may not be able to open your port lid. I bought a 36V MG with the 50 inch shaft. Works extremely nice. Deck lid opens no prob. MK has the 52" shaft I believe, which would work well for you. You won't regret the 36V. All the power you need to hold in a current with wind in your face. Get the lift assist.

    Hi Guys,

Thanks to all for your imput so far....!

Lea, to correct you, I mean Aussie Bass. They look more like your Small mouth bass... I'll post a pic to show everyone... Let me know what you think..

    Aussie Bass - 6lb'er

We also fish for Cod over here in small streams that run through rocky gorges... They are very similar to your largemouth, I'll post a pic...

    Aussie Cod

Everyone let me know what you think of our Aussie Sports fish...

Re: Can you run a 101lb Maxumm on a 183 cx???? (dukhntr)

    Hi Dukhntr,

People do eat both the bass and the cod... However if your used to eating salt water fish you definately wouldnt like the Bass.. They take on a really weedy muddy sort of flavour. Our bass are stocked into the lakes we fish, so because there is now flow or tide in the dams the still water seems to have that affect on them...

The Cod on the other hand come from small creeks with crystal clear cold water in them. So the cod do taste alot better but generally people choose to release them because they are an endangered species...

I think they are Australias premiere sports fish so I always choose to release them....
