    XD25 vs. XD30 vs XD50 for an'06 225 ETEC HO

I'm running a 2006 225hp ETEC HO (NOT programed for XD100) and have been using XD 25.

I was wondering if there is a significant difference between XD25 to the XD30 or XD50. I haven't noticed any problems with the XD25 but if it's better to use the XD30 or XD 50 then I'll make the switch.

Thanks in advance for any advice or opinions.

I would run at the very least xd-50. It's a semisynthetic that has additives to help clean your engine. I still run xd-100 in my 03 DI.

Any XD-25 would be at least about 4 years old, and is probably not RL rated on the TC-W3 certification number, which would then be a non-approved oil for an E-TEC.

XD-30 which replaced XD-25 some years back, is a better oil, but the XD-50 allows your motor to run cleaner inside the combustion chamber.

Thanks for the info guys. I took the XD25 back to the store and will burn off whats in the reservoir. Found a dealer here who sells XD50 in bulk so I'll get some bottles and fill up.

I still fail to understand why guys spend the $$ on a rig or a new engine and want to pinch pennies on oil .... XD100

Pennies add up. Around here the XD 50 is over $32 a gallon and I'm looking for an alternative.

You getting it off the shelf??? If you can find a dealer that sells in bulk, you can usually save about half with your own jugs.

Dam, I don't even pay that for XD100... For sure I'd be trying to find it in bulk...

$32 a gal for xd-50? you might want to find another source for your oil. if you can't find one locally, you might want to start buying off of the internet. you shouldn't be paying anywhere near that much....

i use xd100 andi buy in bulk, so i haven't bought any in a while, but C&O is selling XD100 for around $35ish a gallon, i think xd50 is under $22 a gal. don't quote me on that, i'll find out tomorrow and update this post.

called today, it is $22 and change per gallon of xd50

at that price you're paying almost $200 a case, you could drive from memphis to C&O, pay $130ish a case and still not burn the amount of money you would save in gas getting there.

One more thing, when your Etec is programmed for X100, it uses about half the rate of oil. Have you figured this into your price?

I know that I have read the manual pretty extensively since I bought my 2006 ETEC 150 on my Alumacraft Navigator 185 Sport. It states the recommended oil is the XD100, not sure if XD50 or lower would void any warrantees. Just my 2 cents...I will be going to the XD100 when my oil gets low in the reservoir.

Dennis, You called Sanfors's and they are 32.00 gal for XD-50. If you or anyone else knows where to get XD50 around Memphis I sure would like to know. I just can't get the stuff. All the dealers around here sell Merc's and Yamaha's.
