    Re: Experience with 184s (Champer196)

I've had one eye on it. Love that blue hull too, but Green Bay is a stretch for me. Don't really know to pull off the purchase without knowing someone locally to check it over.

    Re: Experience with 184s (Champer196)

I have a 1990 184 w/ YAMH 150. It is my first boat but have have riden in all different sizes, models & brands. I wanted a CHAMP because of the ride. Grand Lake is a good test on how boats handle rough water!!

I don't know exactly what you are wanting to know?? MPH I have gotten it up to 53. I have a 70 Minn Kota trolling motor. The ride is smooth and gets on plane very quick!!

    Re: Experience with 184s (BuzzChamp)

Good info. Thanks. Basically I'm just looking for the opinions on the 184 from you all that know first hand. Great boat with all the Champion qualities in that smaller, classic package.

Found one I really like in KS at a car dealership of all places:

I have a 93 184DC and it's great. It has a 175 Merc and tops out at 63-64gps. I think it's got a little more in it with some prop work and setup changes.
    Running a 10" JP.

Love my 184. This is my first glass boat, and it handles rough water very well. Turns like its on rails. Mine is 18 years old and faded, but still intact.

I can do 55 with a 24 pitch Raker with a 150 Johnson GT. I'm down to 53 now because someone keeps hitting things and killing the edge on their prop...

    Just for clairification:

Yes.. disassembly was due to HUMAN ERROR.. not the boat's fault... Honestly if there was a nuclear explosion, the CHAMP would be the place I would run for cover!!!!

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by jpuryear &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">How do the older 184s run/ride? Any old skeletons hiding there? Seems like there are a lot of older 184s out there but not a lot of discussion compared to other older hulls. Nothing on the set up page for 184s either...maybe i just missed it.

    </TD></TR></TABLE>

I had a 91, and it was not the larger beams of today, it was fast, and very comfortable ride in rough water, I could impress alot of people in that boat who owned bigger boats of other brands

    heres a pic

Looks to be in pretty good shape! Elwood is maybe 4 hours from me (west). Not much for water out that way.

The motor says St Joseph MO. St Louis - St. Joe - that boat is destined to be yours!

I just sold a '89 184 w/a Merc 175. She was an awesome boat! Found her from a friends dad who never used it on Table rock. They are out there. Great big water boat for their length!

    I will miss her!

Thats what I'm thinking. My seven year old says buy it - its blue
Don't really know about the car dealership angle. Darn the luck, got a buddy tournament at Table Rock this weekend - once a year deal. with my luck, the boat will disappear before I can go check it out I do plan on pursuing this one. Thanks for the feedback

It will still be there. Things aren't selling to good right now. I'll bet you could get a hell of a deal on it. I wouldn't worry about the car dealership deal. Lots of dealers get lots strange things on lots when times are tough.

I have a 86' with a 87' Rude XP 200...New Powerhead, seats, carpet, blue candy top, electronics, all that is left to do is the trailer...runs 64-65 loaded gps...only rated for 175 but is insured so it is a non-factor...let me know if you need more info...I forgot to mention if you fish big water make sure it has two tanks or be ready to cruise...Range is an issue for me.

    Re: Experience with 184s (sker13)

I just sold my 1990 DCR-184... can see it on the "let's see some Champs page" at http://www.bbcboards.net...age=9 5 up from the bottom, it's the red one.

I just hope that the new 188 that I just ordered (going into production on May 5th) will make me as happy.

Asking about speeds... that 184 with the 1996 150EFI Merc would run 61 with me and a full tank of gas.

    Great boats.
