I have a 95 Rude vindicator 200. I'm running down the lake at about 5500 Rpm's and the carb spit like it backfired or something then about 2minutes later it went from 5500rpm's to 4000 and had a god awful knocking sound. yeah I know the motor is gone but does that sound like it threw a rod? I started it one more time just to hear and it fired right back up but man what a knocking sound.I know it'll be hard to say without hearing it so I'm just looking for some educated guesses here.
not a guru,but my guess you had a lean condition occur, and blew one cylinder, I can't wait for the guru's to appear and hear there theories to see how far off my guess is. LOL

My guess is #2 leaned out and poped only way your gonna know for sure is to take a comp test. Rusty isn't too far from you, He's just outside of Nashville (Gallatin TN) if you want a jam up job done. Which ever cylinder it is I'd check its carbs and see if the HS jet backed out causing a lean out conditition.

Well I pulled the plugs to look at them and the #2 is covered in aluminum. guess you know what you're talking about Champ
Ain't that bad bud $$ wise. Sleeve new piston as long as the crank ain't messed up and the front half of the block doesn't have a hole it can be rebuilt, repaired or refreshed.
What are you calling not that bad?
