This motor is an 89. It runs very rough and is spitting gas and occasiona;;y fire back threw the carbs. I have rebuilt the carbs to no avail. The reeds look fine. compression is good spark on all cylinders. Where do I go from here?

I would look at the sync and link, make sure all the throttle plates are closing, I would also check the cylinder head temps, they should be in the 140 to 160 range.
Hed temp is good. I did a sync and link when I rebuilt the carbs the second time
Make sure all the throttle plates are "closed" @ idle. If the idle timing is too low it will make the motor lean spit. You could have an air leak around the carbs/intake. After verifying the above first, spray some carb cleaner around the intake, carbs and crankcase front half to find the air leak.
