Mike, what I have to work with is a 1987 Champion Demo Ride video in VHS format. What I am doing is extracting the video segments showing Champions running flat out, breach turns, shoreline hugging and lots of rooster tails, you know the kind of stuff we all enjoy watching. Then I am running them through a cleanup process called "pre-edit tonal rendering" that seperates the VHS video RGB output into a true standard 3 spectrum sRGB video file and a 4 spectrum CMYK video file. There is also a GrayScale to balance the color saturation or lack of color in certian areas of the digital images.
I know that was a bit over the top for an explination but the key to all of this is one thing,,,,It takes MANY MANY HOURS of trial and testing on each segment of video, to get everyting looking OK. THEN, there is the editing of the imported video into the frame by frame timeline, removal of the native audio tracks and editing in a new background music track, then syncronizing the segments with music track and transitioning each of the chapters.
All in all I think I can glean out another 3 to 5 minutes of good Champion video from the tape, to make a finished product lasting 6 to 8 minutes. But this is going to take a while to finish. By getting in a hurry to finish, I could make stupid mistake and with one wrong click of the mouse, I could ruin the whole thing.![]()
I do want to thank everyone for all the encouragement and praise, that you have been posting and I assure you that it modivates me to work even harder on the project. So if you see something in the video that is off timing, out of sequence or sluggish, please let me know. All feedback is welcome.
Thanks, UberChamp
Just watched it again, makes me want to go get mine and put her in the water. No fishing, just want to go play with the boat. I feel the need for speed, I'm a Champ. junkie.
GET IN, SIT DOWN, SHUT UP and HANG ON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My counter just passed 2531 views and 20 downloads for this video since I uploaded it 3 days ago. The whole time I was uploading it (2 hours) I was thinking, "Well you butchered this one!" Maybe they won't notice all the flaws, O-sync's and glitches. In my wildest dreams, I would never have imagined it would collect that many views.![]()

Terrific response to a great job!!
Finally got on a high speed connection. That is a great job!!!!
If you want the know the players involved in the tape I can help. Actually you caught me in a short shot...mid way the "spin out" breach stop is ahem...me.
The video was shot at Braunig, Amistad, and Bull Shoals. The skinny guy driving in most of the shots is David Bradford, hard to tell without a scorecard the big guys would be Don Hancock or Kelly Powers. The shot of jumping wakes was Bill Pace.
What time tends to make us forget is just how nimble those boats really are, and there's never been anything built that can duplicate the handling abilities.
I want to again thank you for the effort, it's not gone unnoticed.

That video is awesome! That breach turn ROCK'S!!![]()
Pat,,,that was you? I apologize for the poor quality of the video clip but I have started the process of rendering each of the segments. Now that I know it's you, I'll try a few extra effects when I render that segment. We all want to see if Pat's face is grinning or if his eyes are buggin out of his head after taking that Champ through the MOST VIOLENT BREACH STOP I have ever seen! I slowed it down and looked at it frame by frame and what I saw was the direction of the G force changed on you when the back end lost it's bite at about halfway through the breach. Your body posture totally changed and it looks like you took 2 hits, 1 forward and 1 back to your right. And, I just want to know, did you feel a momentary sense of negative G's when you felt the back end break loose and come around on you? I would have crapped my drawers on that one!![]()

If there's any wonder why I'm running a 20 year old boat, those video's should answer any questions.
BTW, I can hear that CD in my boat now everytime I'm taking off, I won't shut the motor off till the songs done, I'll probably go right past the place I wanted to fish!![]()
Hey Glen,
The background music track in the video is called "Cliffs Of Dover" from the 1990 Capital Records CD release of Eric Johnson's "Ah Via Musicom". The CD may have been released 17 years ago, but it still turns a lot of heads even today, when they hear it for the first time. The tone he produces through his 1954 Fender Stratocaster and his amps, ie., 1964 Marshall JTM45 Plexi w/Block Logo, a mid- 80's Dumble 100W Steel String Singer w/Hi-Accent switch, a 1960 Vox AC-30 w/Top Boost and finally two, 1964 Fender Blackface Deluxe Reverb's w/sequential serial numbers. And I thought I had G.A.S.! (Gear Acquisition Syndrome)
Just an update to everyone, I have begun the rendering process, starting with "Image Stabilization" on the first pass. This will clean up quite a bit of the camera shake and center the focal point of the shot on the boat! The first chapter, consisting of 43 scene segments, took almost 21 hours of rendering with my PC's CPU averaging 70% to 90% utilization. And that was only using 1 Video Effect! Once I complete the Image Stabilization on the other 4 Chapters, I plan on running another cleanup tool called "Auto Color Correction". This will add light and color to all of the washed out frames in the video. It will also balance the Gamma for each of the scene's where the colors appear to be bleeding from being to intense. To test all of this, I ran the Image Stabilization and Auto Color Correction on a short 20 second scene, saved it, and burned it to disk. I then took it into my media room and played it on the Samsung High Definition DVD Recorder with HDMI output to the Dell 42 inch HD Plasma Flat Screen. And the picture looked like,,,well it looked about 500% better than the first verson I posted for everyone to look at, but the first version was really ROUGH! Trust me on this one,,,please! I am now starting the rendering process for the second chapter so you may not see or hear from me over the next 24 hours or so. After the second chapter completes the cleanup process, I may try to piece a few scene's together for a quick 30 second clip so everyone can see the difference between the two versons. I was sort of hoping to go fishing this weekend, but if the weather is still freakin' cold, Highs of 42 degrees on Saturday and 38 degrees on Sunday with lows of 22 degrees both nights, I might stay home and, "put another log on the fire, cook me up some bacon and some beans, and go out to the car and change the tire, then wash my socks and sew my old blue jeans!" (Lyrics by Tompall Glaser)![]()

Yep. I've got the album....er CD.
42 degrees for a high is too cold? That's fishing weather here. They're talking a high of 20 on Sat and Sun. with a stiff NW wind dropping the wind chill to zero and below. The lake I was thinking of fishing is probably hard water now.
G.A.S. is a deadly thing man...
2 champs, (a 98 203 and an 87 184)a pile of loomis/shimano combos, and this

Fine job on the video so far looks good. I was hoping someone would be able to do something with it. I had dubbed that from a dealer demo that had been ran a couple million times, not the best quality video but it got the point across......please be sure to get vols 203 a copy of that when you get it all finished. I would like to see it.
Sure glad you dubbed it!! It's fun to see it all again!!! Thanks to all involved!!!![]()
I love watching this video.
Is it warm out yet!!! Darn it watching that video just makes any Champ owner want to get out, drop the throttle and fo fishin! It made it all the way up to 26 here today, a heat wave! Thanks for all the hard work on the video!!!
Unbelievable video and soundtrack. Thanks for posting this.
I really am excited about getting my 1987 Champ going.
I don't want to hit that spin out but I will post pics video of that bow lift if I can.
