Good Day,
I have a 2001 Johnson 225HO (J225HPLSIF) which was runing decently, but not as good as normal. It had a very minor miss and appeared to be somewhat more of a GAS hog than normal.
I decarbed and it became worse. Per recommendations on the board, I changed the spark plugs and corrected the alignment of the schraeder valve (now in line with the body of the solenoid).
After changing the plugs I took it to the water. I was also trying a new prop at the same time. It seemed to be running fine with the 26p Raker II, great lift, etc. Engine sounded differently than it does with my Renegade, but I thought it was just because of the new prop. Anyway, it only got up to 5500rpm and 68mph. I thought it was just not a good running prop. This weekend I went to run it again and things started to go downhill. Boat got on plane but when I went to throttle up, it only got to about 5200 RPM. It then began to rattle, so I slowed down. I let it idle for a minute and all seemed to be fine. Went to get back on top and the rattle returned. Once again, idling was fine.
I idled back to the landing not wanting to cause any troubles. No alarms or lights. I got back home and check compression, all about 105-110lbs. Spark was there too. Check while running and removing plug wire. Each time I removed one, it appeared to make a difference.
Any ideas????
Thanks,
Dan
