    1996 Evinrude Intruder Miss

E150GLEDB G0412242- I am experiencing a hard miss, like the engine cuts off for a split second, on my first run in the morning. Sometimes it just sputters a little bit, but most of the time it is a hard miss. I try to give it about 5 minutes or so to warm up and then idle past the no wake which is 150-200 yards. I looked at the spark plugs and they looked fine. (looks can be deceiving) Could a battery cause this? I do use a deep cycle battery for a starting battery. Please point me in the right direction, thanks.

I'd definitely replace the battery - a deep cycle isn't designed to be a cranking battery... and lose the wing nuts. Go with nylock nuts or nuts and lock washers and tighten them securely... It's really bad for the electric components to use wing nuts on a cranking battery...

Are you using Chamion QL 78 YC plugs?

Only during the first run when it was about 50 degrees outside did it miss. after that went all day without doing it.

What boat is it on and whose controls were installed? BRP controls or aftermarket?

Well that may be hard to explain, I was asking to see if may be you had a key switch or harness problem.

i would have to believe it is original equip as everything else in the boat was stock, the only add-on was a bow mounted fishfinder. nearest shop is at least an hour and a half, any way i can vacuum test the fuel hoses? or tell if it is the power pack or something like that myself?

This is a suggestion and finding a dealer that will do it may not be easy, I would put a pack and EET on it and let you run it, if it fixes it you pay for parts and labor, if it does not I would remove the parts and we would try something else.

The some time, or, only every now and then problems are hard to find.

how much are these parts and where can i get them? what part numbers are they also? can i do it myself, then i still have the spare parts should they go bad and im not out labor. I saw some power packs on ebay, for what i thought was cheap.

    Part numbers: 584985 power pack @ $259.00 and EET 586343 @ $ 69.99.

We can get them to you but if we don't install the we can not take them back, Sorry.

With the information you posted that is what I would do but keep in mind I have free parts to try.

you tack on 531 mile trip one way, towing the boat, free gets real expensive
if i knew a way i could pull it off, id do it, but id be in over a grand if those had to be replaced and 4 tanks of gas, probably a hotel room, god knows what kind of bait shops they got in Nashville. let me think about it and talk to my buddy, his dad runs cars all over the country for people, he might do it for me.

Let us know, we can smoke the motor over while you are here and make sure everything is fixed before you leave.

Thanks Mike for the kind words.
