    moeller gas tank ?

Hey guys my 96 ragin cajun 190 has 30 gallon fuel tank made by moeller and there is absolutely no vents on it and fueling it is a 25-30 minute affair, because you have to barely squeeze the pump or it overflows. Im thinking they somehow forgot to install a vent but I dont see a vent connect? anybody else have this? or ideas? after 13 years of drizzling gas into the tank im ready for a vent!! Thanks for the help.

I don't think I have ever seen one without a vent or at the very least a place for a vent on the tank itself. Could just be an issue with the vent line being clogged or crimped. I would contact Moeller and get them to help me with this issue. Below is their contact website information. They have 800 numbers so it should be fairly painless. They can at the very least help you with the specifics of the tank and its venting issue. I mean after all it is a safety issue.

Re: moeller gas tank ? (Airborne!)

yeah I have all the contact info. and that was my next step, the tank has the hose for the reserve and the tank its self plus the sending unit in the dead center of it but no other hoses, i was thinking about putting a vent right next to where the line comes from the gas cap, just because its flat and near the side of the boat. but I will call them first to see if they have info on where the vent should be first. Thanks for the help guys!!

I talked with moeller today, and they e-mailed me the design prints of my model tank, needless to say the vent is in the very back of the tank towards the bow on the port side next to the livewells. If you have a black attwood filler cap with model #911810 it has a built in vent that isnt open or clogged or not functioning here is the link for the cap [URL)http://www.attwoodmarine.com/store/p...tainless-Steel im taking mine apart tomm. I will post how it goes. sorry about the link not sure how to post it

I don't know what kind of tank I have, but it does have a vent, but it takes forever to trickle gas in anyway. If I try to go too fast, gas comes shooting out the vent and the pump kicks off. I have to ease the fuel in very slowly, and listen for it to sound like its going in too fast. When I hear it sound like its going to overflow, I release the handle, and let the gas settle down inside the tank, and then I can start again. I usually have to go through this routine about 10 times if I want to really top off the gas tank.

It's a pain, but it really only takes about 5 minutes.

When I first got my boat it acted exactly like that. It had a good vent, however the line on the vent was kinked? Straightened line by replacing hose, then everything worked fine.

Re: moeller gas tank ? (wlbutts)

Mine was also the same way. What I did, was near the batterys I put a clamp to hold the vent hose up near the top of the boat. It was just laying on the floor, and when it was full it would let gas siphon out the back of the boat,if I went up hill,or took off to fast. Also since it is a 1991,I checked out ALL the gas lines. You whould be surprized at what I found. No wonder I kept smelling gas! The stuff they put in our gas nowadays, is not good on hoses. It was a real pain in the a**,but worth the time to pull my tank out,and replace all the hoses, and clean out my tank. After all the years ,you whould be in for a shock to see what was in the bottom of my gas tank.
    PS
Also because of the age factor- Check your hoses on your beildge, and areator pumps, since the are under the water line, and if an old clamp,or a hose has a hole in it, it can sink. Sorry for the mis spelling-it is early!!
