    Am I paying too much????

    Hi everyone,

The boat that I'm purchasing is a 1979 Cajun. I can post pics later if needed. I don't know alot about boats, really don't know much of anything. My buddy though has grown up around them all his life (he's 26). He has a 1994 Nitro with a 175 Mercury on it. Anyway, we found this boat and like I said, when I saw it I had a feeling like this was THE ONE. Well, it's now time for me to put the money down on her. Asking price is $1500.00. Its a 17ft Cajun with a 115 Evinrude motor. The hull looks good and so does the interior. Carpet looks well treated as well. It took a while to get it started but once it started it sounded good but there was a noticeable "miss" in the motor. The guy who is selling it says he got it from an older cousin but he no longer wants it. My buddy says it needs some work (i.e. carb adjusted/cleaned, spark plugs, etc.) I have no problem putting more $$$$ in getting it running right. Also, I plan to do a few mods over time. Just want to know what you all think. Thanks. P.S. this is my first boat.

I'd say a compression check on the motor would be one thing I'd definitely do. Make sure the transom is solid.
