what does this sound like to you..

i can hear a pst..pst..pst..pst..when thw motor is running in the water...you cant hear it with muffs on it..has to have back preasure on it...sounds like exhaulst to me...this is a 2004 150 BRP powerhead on a 175 intruder frame...was just put togather and i noticed the sound the first time in the water..does it sound like a powerhead to exh. housing gasket..or maybe a loose bolt..where else could exh. sound come from..thanks for any help..

You are talking about a carbureted motor, right? not an Evinrude FICHT or DI motor?

You may have to remove the motor pans to see where this exhaust leak is coming from. The base gasket would be a good place to start.

I doubt that it is a crankcase leak as that would be audible with or without backpressure. I assume that all the sparkplugs are torqued correctly and are not cracked or leaking.

thanks seahourse..yes it is a carbed motor...checked all the plugs and and areas between the halves but all seems good...the powerhead was on a boat that bunt up in a garage..got the motor for nothing...had a 1991 intruder with blown PH..after a LOT of mods got her togather..hope i just have a loose bolt...she sure runs good...100 times better than the merc i took off..thanks again

just pulled the pans and all is fine...did find the 3 way manifold in the back were not clamped on the 2 exhaust sides...guess i'll get a barrell it will fit in and see if i can hear it then...thanks..
