    Blowout on holeshot...help!

    Here is the setup:
Blazer 202 ProV, Merc Racing Optimax 250XS, Sportmaster, 27P Tempest Plus, 15" jackplate. Have tried it on lowest jackplate setting up to 2" below pad on driveshaft, and no real difference. Eventually it will get up with buddy at front of boat, but blows out every time.

Top end speed is awesome w/ this setup. Had it at 70 GPS yesterday w/ three in boat, full gas tanks at 5000 RPM and no trim adjustments. I just need to get out of hole better. Should I go to 26P Tempest prop or can I make adjustments w/ what I have to prevent blowout? I have not done anything with the plugs in the prop.

    Thanks!

With three in a Blazer you're always gonna be a little slower out the hole.Same thing when you fill the livewells. What gears do you have in the lower unit ? does your prop have vent holes in it ? you may need a cavation ring as well. some of the Merc guys will chime in and help you better than me.

Gear ratio is 1.62:1. All the plugs are in the prop and no ring.

OK when your coming out of the hole; Are you smothy trying to come up on plane or are matting and then coming off the trottle some as it launches?

Beezer, I did notice that while coming down that letting off some was the only way to get it on pad. It still, however, was blowing out some every time I tried to get up.

I think that it is the prop. My buddy had the same problem with his Raker. But first when you say all of the plugs are in, do you mean that you have no vent hole open at all?

Sportmaster cases seem to create more air bubbles on holeshot than a Torquemaster and blow out real bad on Blazers. I had a Sportmaster case on my 2001 202 when I had my 225 EFI and it blew out bad with every prop I tried except a Hydromotive Quad 4-X OB . The 1:75 torque master on my 250 XS does not blowout near as much as the Sportmaster did ... If I had a 1:62 Sportmaster on a 202 with 250 XS the prop I would run would be a 27 or 28 Hydromotive Quad 4-X OB. My brother has an Allison XB21 with 1:62 Sportmaster 250 Xs and it blows out real bad with any other prop than the Hydromotive. It will hardly even get on plane with a Tempest. He runs a 28 Hydromotive to 87 mph for tourneys and a 29 for solo running to 94 mph...

It could be the sporty! You have to launch it out of the hole. What I mean by that is mat to the floor and just before it blows out back out. Its still gona blow out but you will have enough speed already to hook up and go. I would try another prop too, even more pitch may help because that motor has enough torque on bottom to create more speed before it blows out. I don't know if your on Fastbass.com much but there are more guys over there that run Mercs. they may be able to help you a little more on set up. Me personally I would never run a Tempest as a surfacing prop, It'll blowout in a heart beat on topend if you get greety with the trim!!!
