Need Help Please -- MK Maxxum 70, will not Run

I know troubleshooting and diagnosing is difficult over the internet, but I would appreciate some help please.

I recently installed a 24V 70# MK Maxxum trolling motor and installed the 24V battery system today. The two new 27DC 12V EverStart batteries are connected correctly in series.

I have power at the trolling motor plug, and there seems to be power at the TM foot pedal, because when the MOM/OFF/CON switch is set at the MOM or CON position, I can hear the "click" when depressing the Momentary switch, however the prop does not spin. When the MOM/OFF/CON switch is in the OFF position, there is no "click" when depressing the Momentary switch.

What troubleshooting can be done to ensure power is getting to the trolling motor head and/or motor, and what else do I check for ? Thanks in advance !!

OK... so, I disconnected the positive and negative wires leading from the TM foot pedal to the trolling motor plug. I connected the two TM pedal wires directly to six gauge wire, which was connected directly to the 24V battery system, thus bypassing the TM plug, and still had the same result -- just a "click" noise in the foot pedal when depressing the momentary switch and the trolling motor shaft does not spin. . . any thoughts ???

Given that it's a used 70, I'm guessing the brush holder has failed and holding the brushes off the armature. I can help you troubleshoot if you will give me a call.

Notice the manual is dated "2004". In ten years, some things have changed.

John, I agree with Jones but basic is basic and trouble shooting requires some place to start, do you have a volt meter? They are invaluable when trouble shooting electronics and tracking down voltages. A cheap one will work as good as expensive one for dc voltages. Just be sure it has dc voltage on it.

I did call you yesterday and you were tied up with customers -- that's a good thing in today's economy :-) Thank you for taking the time to reply.

The motor is only a year and half old, so I'm looking for a local authorized Minn Kota dealer to work on the motor.

    Thank you all !!

At 1 1/2 years old, you need to find a service center as you are trying to do. I saw the message around 8pm our time (that's when I came in from the shop) and figured with time difference, I would call this AM.
