Hey BCB Guys...I need some information...

Yall got some nice looking rigs posted here, BTW.

Anyway, to my question. I see that a good number of the Bass Cats posted have the Cooper Cobra tires. I am in need of new tires on my trailer and based on what I have read, I'm don't have much confidence in the Good Year Marathons or the Carlisle tires.

I know that BCB has been installing the Coopers on their trailers for sometime now and I know they would not do that without considerable evaluation and thought. Yet all the tire men I have ever talked to say not to use passenger car tires on boat trailers.

What does BCB know that they don't? Have any of you guys had any issues with the Cobra's?

Thanks for the info and help, in advance.

There was a recall on a run of Cobras last year. Not sure if they make them anymore. Bass Cat switched to Stinger Tires this year.

The standard for the trailer industry is to drop 10% of the gross capacity weight. Then they are fine for trailer uses. Most tire shops are no taware of the standards in this industry. The Cooper Cobras are fine now and BCB switched to Dans Stingers for a brief interval. There is no recall on Coopers and Deans Stingers at Coopers made on the same product line. Just a different tread mold.

You can also go to Maxxis tires and they seem great also.

The main reason it is not recommended to put a passenger tire on a trailer is because of the possibility of trailer "sway" due to a lower ply rating, lower air pressure requirements and tread design. This is more likely on single axle trailers. That being said, the Cooper Cobra obviously works for BCB. If it didn't I guarantee they would hear about it. Although the maximum load rating on passenger tires is lower than trailer tires, it is still sufficient for bass boats. IM me if you would like a price on Coopers. I can get them.

I've said it a meellion times now. If BCB uses them on a $60K rig, then they are good enough for my 1995 oldie but goodie. Now mine does sway a lil more when I'm doing 75mph, but hell I shouldn't be going that fast anyway pulling my boat ...With that said, I still don't worry about the tire blowing up and beating the crap out of my white fender and scaring me and my daughter(who was sleep) while going down the road or it blowing with my club member right behind me and slinging tread all over his almost new truck at the time. MaraGones won't get my money EEEVVAA again ..

Well there was a bad run of Coopers in 2011. I had a sidewall blow out on one on a 2011 model new boat leftover towing it to the boat show this year. Be careful. Just saying.

No recall on those tires though.

Also if you check the plies on the tires you will notice that they are all the same ply for most trailer and passenger car. Also if you run a caliper on them the sidewall thickness may actually be thicker than the trailers. For example, there is a process to run trailers with passenger cars, there is no process to run passenger cars with trailer tires.

I wonder if the size of the tire matters as far as a car tire Vs a trailer tire. From what I can determine BCB's have a 15" tire and mine are 14".

Also I have found out that Cooper does not make a tire in my size. 205-75R-14. Actually I have found out there are just a few manufactures that make that size. Thinking about Kumo, Hankook or perhaps Michelin. They make a 205-75R-14.

    Any thoughts?
