    Comparing 115 E-Tec's models with OMC 115hp & FastStrike

As I collect the OMC & E-Tec yearly Sales brochures I am entering the spec's into a database that I have created on my computer. Early days yet but some interesting comparitive data emerging on the 2006 2007, 115 E-Tec. The 2006 model is 115hp @ 5000 RPM & the 2007 is 115hp @ 5750 RPM. Compare that with the 1996 Johnson 115 which is 115 @ 5000 RPM & the 1996 Johnson FastStrike Intruder which is 115HP @ 5500 RPM. As the Faststrike is a high Performance version of the 1996 Johnson 115hp could it be that the 2007 115 E-Tec is a higher performance version of the 2006 E-Tec 115.

    What do you think??

Unless its a misprint (which I doubt) I reckon the 2007 115hp E-Tec is actually a 130hp @ 5750 RPM. It is legal cos its covered by the 10% plus or minus horsepower rule. Another part of the 2007 115hp spec also lists a BLUE 25" shaft length E-Tec which is NOT listed in the 2006 brochure. Interesting HUH!!

According to BRP there is no such thing as a 2006 115 hp Etec. All 115 hp motors are considered 2007 models.

    Re: (javelinbob)

That maybe so 'javelinbob' BUT I have a 2006 brochure AND a 2007 brochure And the specs on the 2006 E-Tec 115 is '115hp @ 5000 RPM' and the 2007 brochure says '115hp at 5750 RPM'.
The 2007 brochure also lists the 2007 115 is available in 4 configurations 20" White, 20" Blue, 25" White AND 25" BLUE. The 25" BLUE is NOT listed as available in the 2006 brochure.

The brochures were printed up before the delayed introduction of the 60° E-TECs made them become '07 models.

    Liquid

I looked at the 2006 catalog and see where it says that the 115 is rated at 5000RPM. That is on the same page (33) that list the 90HP as weighing 369 pounds and 375 pounds. That weight for the 90 is not correct so the 5000RPM for the 115 is probably a typo also. After all the next page (34) has the 115 DI at 5500RPM for 115HP. Typically the sales brochure and web page is full of misprints and typos. I point them out to BRP all the time. They never even respond with a thanks or even acknowledge that I have contacted them.

The comparison of the 115 you are doing is very interesting. I have a 2000 115 Evinrude. Check out the sales brochure for that year the HP is rated at 5800 RPM. That makes the 2000 year the top dog of the 115’s! However the owners manual list the HP at 5500 RPM.

    Re: (SC1800ETEC90)

    Thanks SC for your response,

Yes I totally agree. I was on a high there for a while hoping that it was a possibility of being a 130hp spec entered by mistake. I am collecting all the brochures, as it is a great time-line of the OMC BRP product through the ages. They are expensive, particularly when trying to collect around 200 of them, at least 2 brochures per year for a 100 years, maybe more. I eventually want to create a dedicated website to post all these brochures, page by page, in all their high definition glory, Maybe even to the BBC site if they think it is worthy on inclusion. I am not wealthy but this is something I want to do. With supporting this wonderful heritage we are definately on a winner. Any brochure donations would certainly be appreciated.

    Ken.

PS: I wonder if BRP know this site (BBC) exists. Lotta dedicated people here & who post here as well. WE REALLY appreciate the wonderful E-Tec product that BRP has refined from the original OMC heritage. Would be nice to hear from BRP wouldn't it.

All I know is 60 degree motors (Intruder/Faststrike) are they are night and day different on the low end from the older 90 degree motors.

    Re: (evin268fs)

Yep those 60 degree Faststrikes/Intruders were in a class of their own. None of the competition could get near them. Lotsa horses under them engine covers.

I do know something of an OMC engine that was about to go into testing phase in 1999. It was something that would have put an end to the opposition brands racing bragging once & for all. They could NOT have lived with it particularly in high performance F1. Alas, it was not to be YET!!!

Also on another area the 4 litre F1 fuel injected motor was definately producing OVER 500hp but was shelved because a UIM rule change would not allow 4 litre motors to compete. The DYNO figures ARE out there. I would love to see them. Would shut a lotta people up. Also take a look at the "V8 Factory Race Engines" Album on my site below. First 2 pictures. Shows a 4 litre Johnson F1 on a tunnel & in picture #2 a prototype closed deck v8 4litre OMC powerhead.

The OMC engines were amazing with undeniable potential & now BRP have them. Watch Out WORLD. They were, & still are the WORLDS most technological advanced OUTBOARD.

I have found the Evinrude 94, 95 , 96 ,00,05 and 06. You are welcome to these. The 94 and 95 have the V8's listed!. Must be 95 was the last year for a V8. I have a box with some back to the late 60"s. Still looking for that. I did find the parts manual to my dishwasher (which I needed to find) and pictures from the honeymoon which I need to hide better. Maybe by the weekend they will show up.

    Re: (SC1800ETEC90)

Absolutey fantastic. I HAVE the Johnson Brochures in the 94, 95, 96 but not Evinrude. Everyone you have would be a great addition to the cause, even the late stuff. Often the brochures are different from country to country. I reckon once people can actually see the technology of thes "Vintage" motors they will be amazed. They were really way ahead of every thing else out there in what really mattered to the majority of consumers including most racers.

PS. Thanks SC. I am happy to pay postage & packing. Just let me know when you are ready.
