    intuder block is now scrap!?

    1995 175 Intruderm
Well after 4 months of waiting, I find out that the crack in my block is unrepairable? Machinist said he pulled the #1 sleeve and cannot repair crack. So now I am looking for a block and a complete rebuild. This motor so cursed!

Anybody know where I can get a bare 60degree block, I have ALL the guts and bolt-ons.

With all the $ I put into this motor I could have had a new ETEC!

If you're talking about the imfamous "glue seam leak", yes, that can be repaired. You'd have to send it to someone who has done it before and I'm sure there are lots of those folks around. Precision in Largo, Fl. used to do it but with their demise we'd have to find another shop who understands what it is and can fix it.

Is this the issue or is it something else?

I was told the 95 models did not have glue seam problem but early 90's did.

Re: intuder block is now scrap!? (sapnfish)

The first 60* block was 91. Those didn't seem to have it as much as the 92 to about 96 - 97. Every year OMC said they had it cured and every year it seemed to pop up again. The ones that seemed to be cured (for the most part) were the blocks with the casting numbers cast into the starboard side of the block.

But before we jump to conclusions lets see if this is what the problem is. If it is, I'll bet we can find someone who knows how to fix it.

Re: intuder block is now scrap!? (santeerangerman)

yes, it is the casting leak in #1. Was sent to a machine shop in Arkansas who said they had experience with the problem and knew how to fix it. He pulled the sleeve and no believes it cannot be fixed. Said if he starts welding #3 will get weak.
I contacted MarFab and they said they do this all the time and rarely find one thay cannot fix, but I seem to be the 1 in a 1000 EVERY time!

Should i persue this block or look into another? I am frustrated like you can't believe. This motor is killing me!!!

If I do get another block, is there a difference between a 150 and 175?

Any help/suggestions are appreciated. I have been looking at motor parts in the garage for too long and the first tourney is tomorrow.

I think I still have a good 175 Intruder block 97 model, hole in #1 piston. Cylinder was still good. Been sitting up about three years, not disassembled other than heads taken off. Replaced with a NOS complete powerhead drop on. I'll call and see if I still have it, get back with you next day or two.

Re: intuder block is now scrap!? (THE WITCHDOCTOR)

Let me know what you find out Craig. I plan on getting the ball rolling early this week. Hopefully you still have that block, I have my fingers crossed!

Witchdoctor, I plan on calling Marfab again, very nice people. I am afraid the guy that has this block now did too much damage but only time will tell.

    Thanks for your help guys!

I also recommend Mar-Fab. Obviously you've talked to Kurt. Nice folks who do great work. When they fix this one you'll be good to go.

For my own information, does this term "glue seam leak" refer to a discontinuity in the cylinder block aluminum casting which arose from the assembly of the lost foam mold components with an adhesive? I would appreciate a concise explanation of this term. Thanks.

I'll call Monday morning and see if my block is still at the shop that does all my work. Got to call about my 225 they are building, I'll ask about the 175.
