I just switched from a 27 tempest plus to a 28 raker 2 and still have trouble keeping the rpms down. It will run 78.2 at 5900 rpms

That is an excelent idea and we ought to get GEARCASEMAN to give his .02 . I believe with a 1.62 or so and a 29T+ mine would be over 80
I do agree that BRP needs a different gear ratio so we can run normal sized props...it's hell trying props when all my buddies are running 26-27 and I'm needing 28-29...![]()
According to Mark Croxton's recommendation to me he said try a 27 T+ or 28 Raker, I have tried the 27 it doesn't have enough pitch as I have said I am now looking for a 29 TEMP+. I am turning to many R's need tto get down to 5800, this 27 will be a good blade when I am full and have a passenger. But most of time I travel light and fish alone. Would like to trade one of my blades towards a new 29.With your boat you are going to go higher, figure I'll wind up with a B&B 29 Temp+.
I'll tell ya, this 29 Tempest Plus that I have, I can't get out of the hole with it. It keeps blowing out as the bow breaks over, even with solid plugs in it. I did get it up one time by laying on the front deck and reaching for the hot foot and steering wheel to get her up, once it broke over it was a rocket....If I could get her going it would be a great prop. We'll see, I still got some experimenting to do. So far nothing has outperformed my 28 Raker2 in OVERALL performance (hole shot, mid range, fuel economy, and load carrying).
Hey Garfish, and everyone else
have you had the tachometer verified? Everything discussed seems really too good to be true. Unless you have a really really light boat or all of a sudden the engine is making gobs more horespower none of the speeds make sense. I'm sorry I sound like a downer but many of us have been burned by tachometer that reads incorrectly. I urge you to get the tach double checked. If I am wrong I'll admit that but something is not quite right with the numbers. I hope I'm wrong.
Mead, Have your dealer check your Tach, this is no problem with the diagnostic software and a boat ride.![]()
Already had the dealer double check my tach to be sure....It actually is reading about 50rpm too high...![]()
