    Sonars shut-off?

My buddy has an electrical issue. The situation is: Group 27 battery relative new (load test shows good when tested after charge), Optimax 175, Lowrance HDS 5 (no LSS), Lowrance Elite 7. On the water running live wells. When he goes to start the big motor both sonar units shut-off. Sounds like a low voltage issue to me but the battery load tests good.

    Any ideas. Thanks.

Had the same problem. Had to get a better battery. Went with 29 AGM. Have not had an issue since

Few if any 27s meet the requirements for cranking an Optimax. 800CCA AND 180 minute RC minimum.

Tell your buddy to get a Sears PM1 and the issue will be gone.

may not be the battery. I had the same problem with my Elite 7 HDI on the bow until I wired it directly to the battery.

Guys thank you for the discussion. The day it happened we put the units in standby and it did work. We have been doing some research and believe the cranking battery may not have been fully charged on the day this happened. We are going to make sure everything is fully charged, go out and see if we can replicate the problem.

The battery is 1000 CCA and about 18 months old. We are also checking to see if when the shop installed the units if they used the existing wiring or if they made new dedicated home runs.

    Thanks again guys.

I have a deka 27M6 that is a 27 series on my 115 opti ad I also run 2. 898 birds and a 788 unit off that battery and never have had an issue. The 3 units are on all day. Also when the boat is not in use to you have your on board charger hooked to the cranking battery also? I always have a battery tender hooked to the cranker with a 2 bank on board charger for the TM batteries and everything stays nice and charged.

Same thing happened to me recently when I moved my 998 to the bow. After a couple of hours of fishing it was getting down to 8 volts but it was wired to the factory wiring. Ran a new 14 ga wire with a blade type fuse at the battery and now it maintains over 12v.
